Where is your port?

Recommended Posts

My port will be placed in my chest. I would like to hear from land Banders that have it in the stomach and those that have in the chest. Does it really make a difference or am I being paranoid about it being in my chest. I really don't want it there but surgeon says it's easier to locate there. Have you all noticed any scaring from fills?

My port is above my navel and to the left a bit. My surgeon has never had any trouble finding it, fills are painless, and no scarring at all from fills. There will be a dot for a week or so, like from any itty bitty bug bite without the swelling, but then it completely disappears.

Thanks, I think I want mine in that area too.

The idea of chest ports just seems...odd...to me? Of course I obviously don't have any experience with them, but they seem like they would have to be more noticeable from the outside, and more uncomfortable in general. I'm curious to hear some chest port people weigh in on it!

That is kinda weird. I'm sure it will be OK. If he places kinda under the body fat where your breasts begin you probably won't be able to tell it's there. But if he places it above that, you may be able to feel it a little more. Depending on how thin you get, it could possibly show. I don't want you to be dissatisfied, I would ask him his reasoning behind that. It makes the surgery more complicated as he will have to use a tunneling tool to create a space for the port line to go through. Don't do anything until you are satisfied with all of the answers. Not all docs are created equal.

Oh,and if I were you, I might insist on a low or very low profile port. That may be his plan, but I would check.

Seems odd to me as well!!.. He assured me that you wouldn't notice it from the outside but I'm still a bit apprehensive about it. He said I would have an incision under my arm to place it! That seems odd as well! Am I gonna have to keep my arm raised it heals??.

The incision would likely be very small. That would actually be a good place because then it wouldn't show if you wear a bathing suit or something low cut. If he's done a bunch of these, then he probably knows what he's doing.

Thanks Leepers. I will definitely ask more question. I didn't know ports came in different sizes.

The more I think about it, don't let it worry you too much. I think we all end up where we need to be. Maybe this is a new, forward way of thinking. It may lead to less complications with the port. If the doc can find it easier, he may not puncture something else. My doc is forward thinking in some ways, and in others, I don't feel he's practicing the newer ways of the lapband thinking. So, it may be a good thing! Best Wishes!

Mine is in my right upper abdomen, just a few inches below my ribs on that side.

Mine is on my left side just left of the belly button. One of the scars I have is right on top of it. No issues at all with it.

mine is in the same place as country, right side under rib cage. there are reasons a surgeon will pick the place he wants the port. and if you think it will show more after you lose wt. there is a port and tubing especially for those that have lost all their wt. and don't want it to show. I wouldn't care where they put it as long as it wasn't on my waist line. that I promise would hurt wearing pants. good luck on your surgery.

For some reason my Doc places ports right below the middle of my boobs. It's ok but a wire bra can hurt a bit after a long day. Or if I sit slouching (bad habit I know). I guess each surgeon has their reasons. No problems in over 7 years so I'm ok with it. I can sure feel it right under my skin

Mine is straight up about 5 inches higher than my belly button and about 10 inches below my boobs.

I have no idea why he placed it there, but it works well for me.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
