13 yr old getting sleeve. Need recommendations in Mexico

Recommended Posts

Thank you for asking she is doing great she's actually adjusted much better than my husband who had the surgery a week before. I think because she's young but mature for her age it's actually been easier for her mentally and physically then it is for my husband who's been dealing with his obesity a lot longer. She's very hopeful and optimistic and excited to start exercising. It's been 2 weeks and she's lost 20 pds.

Yes Dr Alvarez in Piedras Negras, Mexico did it on a twelve year old girl but his fee is higher then others in mexico. I've only read good things about him. Nothing at all negative. My 12 year old son is over weight also. If he decides he wants to do the surgery I would take him get it because kids can be very cruel and mean. He has no friends. He tells me no one likes him and calls him fat. It hurts my heart :(

My son (twelve-years-old) and I are going in March to get sleeved by Dr. Quinones. I'm very interested to hear about her experience before and after. It is a emotional decision and would like to say that I don't care to hear anyone's opinion unless you've also held your child, after years of bullying, as they cried, saying they wanted to kill themselves.

I wish I had some solid advice or recommendations to help with your Quest, but I have no children and I don't personally have experience with any doctor in Mexico.

I just wanted to say the story of your daughter really touched me, and I hope you eventually find the answers you are seeking. There's no doubt in my mind that you are doing everything in your power to help your daughter find lasting happiness and health. You are a true loving mother in every sense of the word and I commend you.

Thank you so much. It means a lot to me. I've researched many doctors and feel that I've found t one for us. We are doing this together, on the same day and will be in the same hospital room for our stay. It's not going to be easy but we will have each other. Thank you again.

Beebe As far as the surgery there are always risks. I had mine in the states at a Bariatric surgery of excellence. My husband and daughter saw Dr. Q. Their experience was actually better than mine. I'm grateful there was no emergency in Tijuana however as they would have had to transport to a Hospital. That being said things went off without a hitch. You will want someone there to help take care of you and your son and get you the things you might need. My daughter has done great. She is very mature for her age and has been able to handle things very well. She lost 35 pds the first month and has lost 48 total(about 9 weeks) she is so much happier and more confident. She was able to hang out with friends 2 days after she got home. My husband also lost 35 first month after surgery and has lost about 50 pds(11weeks). As far as risks go I feel that being obese causes more health problems and eventual death. So even though there are risks with surgery at least you are doing something that will benefit you for the rest of your life. Dr Q is great, the translator/helpers are awesome and will help with whatever questions you have or if you need anything. The room is almost like a motel room and very basic so it does throw you off a little. But it's why things are cheaper. However the Dr and nurses are professional and Dr Q is very caring and clearly experienced. Tijuana was much more modern than I anticipated. It was like going to parts of California. It wasn't scary like everyone tried to make it out to be. Anyway I hope that answers your questions. Good luck and feel free to contact me with any more questions.

Thank you for all the support. I think the same way about the risks. They are just hey possibility of what could happen, but what will happen is heart attack, high blood pressure, diabetes and death if we don't lose the weight. My mom and my son's dad are going with us to have the surgury. Hearing about others his age really helps Shawn to know that he's not the only kid to have gone through this. We watch a lot of YouTube videos and I think we are headed in the right direction. I'm about to pay the deposit and lock in our date. Thank you for openly sharing with me.

He has done thousands of surgerys including a 13 yr old girl!! Just look him up I think you'll be impressed. I thank you very much for giving your daughter this opportunity to live a healthy, happy, fulfilled teenage life, that so many of us never had the chance to have. On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
