Just getting fed up waiting and a letter arrived this afternoon.....

Next Step is to see the dietician again, together with the Anaesthetist on the 11th April. When will my date be??? I've tried asking for any cancelations, as I'm self employed and need to be fighting fit for early May. Cutting it a bit fine, or what! I've been told that cancelations here are very rare. So, little hope there. Boy, I am anxious, just give me my operation, PLEASE, What else can I do?

Harass them daily :)

It's the NHS.. They're used to it. They can take it :D

Do you think? I don't want to be a nuisance, but I do want the op NOW. Oh dear, I sound like my three year old granddaughter! Is it safe to hassle? I don't want to go to the bottom of the pile..... Help

Well, I'd say as long as you're doing it in a really overly-nice way.. ala

'Oh, I'm so sorry for bothering you again, just wondered if anyone has cancelled this week? I know you must be exceptionally busy and I really sorry for harassing you. I empathise with you having to deal with people harassing you all the time. Yes, the NHS is being abused by the Government at the moment, isn't it. Are you going anywhere nice on holiday this year? Oh, your hair looks lovely. Are they pictures of your children? Aren't they beautiful...'

Kind of thing!

If you can veer away from desperation and shine with a sparkling personality, they'll remember you for the right reasons - not the wrong ones! Also, after a huge dose of flattery, telling them about your work situation and covet some empathy from them. This might make them think of you first...

Know what I mean?

Worth a shot, for sure. Did you get any names of the person who would be responsible for scheduling you? If not, you might want to do that and work on them first and foremost!

I saw the anaesthitist and surgeon back in november with my operation date being in March. They may already booked up months in advance so you might be pushing things to get the operation date before May sadly, (sorry to sound like a doom and gloom merchant). On the upside I was told out of 6 who were put forward for surgery 2 have had their operations cancelled for some reason or another, another one has postponed as she now wants to wait 6 months so you never know.
Let us know how you get on.

Ahhh Willow.... what can I say, well I was hoping to be sorted and up and running by May. My busiest time is from May till the end of October. It could mean that I'll have to postpone until then. I really hope not. You know, it takes quite a while to come to the point where there really is only one option, and when you take that leap, you don't want to be shoved back do you? Well I'm glad you're keeping both my feet o the ground with this. Hey, maybe there's someone like me that has to postpone and I could take their place? I do get what you mean, and thanks for that, don't build my hopes up. Of course I'll let you know how it goes, and keep me informed on your progress too will you? Did you have to do the 'Weigh Ahead Programme'?

Best wishes to you

Dearest Madam Reverie

I shall give this a try. With all the sweetness and charm I can muster, well, maybe a bit more that that.... Thank you for your advise. The timing is really important, my work is really physical and there's only the two of us, working very long hours, so, that's why I'm so eager, not just impatient to get this done. But as Willow reminds me, looks like I'm in for the long haul. Hope I don't have to wait till November :( Going to go and practice being nice to my husband

Well,

here I am, having been to my second dietician, hospital appointment. It was a 'group' appointment, explaining about the pre-op milk diet. Come away with reams of information to read. Although I was told clearly by the surgeon at my last hospital appointment that I would be having a sleeve, the file says bypass. Well, I'm just going to go with the flow now. I have decided that I have no control at all, apart from I want bariatric surgery to help me on my way to being healthy and fit. Don't know when it will be, or what it will be.......

Must admit having a bit of a blow out at the moment, never been one for many sweet things, but, thinking that I'll not be able to after surgery, I'm working my way along the sweet shelves in the supermarket. I'm sure this will end soon, I'm getting a bit fed up with it. Might go and get a tattoo, my kids think I'm mad, coz it's on my bucket list, well, you never know do you?

I went for take aways the week before I started my pre op diet, which is something I never eat. I had three in that one week and thoroughly enjoyed them. :)
As for tattoo, go for it. I have a few. I was told by an aunt I would regret them when I got old as I said to her if they are they only thing I have regrets about then I am doing amazingly well lol. I wouldnt change my tattoos they all have a reason and got a new butterfly when the surgeon said I was getting my op to mark my new life.

That's it Willow, I'm doing it. Tatt's here I come!!!! There isn't much I regret in life either Willow. So yeah, I'm taking a leaf outta your book. My grandchildren think it's great having a nanny even considering it.

Thanks, sometimes you just need a little bit of support, to do what you really want to... Might have a take away tomorrow night to, haha

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
