You'd never know I have a band...

Recommended Posts

I'm now 8 week post surgery (1/30). My wonderful insurance company has what is called a "90 Day Global Period" whereas I have to wait 90 after surgery for a fill. Let me tell you - the 25 pounds I've taken off…is going to be back by then. I'm really doing my best to make wise choices, eating healthy, etc. But - there is NO WAY that I have any restriction what so ever. The Surgeons office can't help me. Unless I want to pay the one thousand out of my own pocket - no fill for me until at least May 1. This is worse than Bandster Hell. This feels like failure. No way that 1 cup of food is even coming close to giving me that saiety I bragged about a few weeks ago. I've not been posting; its almost too painful to see all of the success that I should be having/getting.

This sucks.

Buck up, Sherilynn.

The time between healing and the first fill is the very hardest part. And - it really IS just like you don't have a band, right now.

You might want to revert to whatever diet plan has been the most successful for you in the past until you get your first fill.

Just remember to Chew everything really well.

1) You are NOT a failure. You just don't have the benefits of the band until you have proper restriction.

2) This is not a race. Winning means you lose weight and you maintain the loss - not that you do it quickly. Remember, you chose the surgery WITHOUT the immediate gratification factor. But the good news is that after a year, you will still be chugging along, enjoying all the benefits of the band, while many of our Immediate Gratification counter-parts will be dealing with stretching pouches and struggling to maintain what they initially lost.

Stay strong. Every day, I am so glad that I chose the band. Some days I am glad because I get full after a small amount of food... some days, because I can eat anything I want... but I am always glad.

Hugs!!

Call your insurance and make sure that you can not have a fill with out paying. I had a fill under my 90 day period and it was to the ins comp "included in surgery" and could be done. I didnt have to pay anything but the copay

Sherilynn, you are doing great. I know it is difficult when you don't have restriction. Just try and stay on the one cup of food. How long after the first fill can you have a 2nd. It may take you a while to feel restriction.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
