1 day post op- dry heaving? Help!

Recommended Posts

Hi. That first day was terrible. I had exact same issue. All I can say is try to rest walk when you can. It does get better. I promise. I was sleeved 1/30. Sorry your not feeling well.

I had diarrhea for at least 10 days. Today I am constipated. I need those sugar-free Gummy bears they sell on Amazon! LOL! (if you don't get this joke, look up the reviews. HILARIOUS!)

Those will surely do the trick! Haha maybe a little TOO well! I'm feeling good today, getting released in a little bit :)

I couldn't keep anything down for 5 days post surgery. The doc gave me a liquid antacid because I couldn't keep down the crushed pill. Problem solved but it took several days of wondering if I'd ever be able to drink again. I was so thirsty! No problems with nausea now at 8 weeks out.

Yes, first day post op I couldn't get the sips in due to this gagging, over salivation state of nausea that I would go through. Horrible feeling. 2nd day it didn't happen at all and I feel I can actually get the fluids in.

It should pass soon.

Oh, forgot to mention that switching from cold to warm fluids helped me a lot too. The warm just seemed to go down easier and provoke less violent reactions.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
