Hi Everyone,

So I have seen about a gajillion posts from pals who need suggestions for Protein Drinks, and the responses are always so helpful with suggestions of specific brands and sometimes websites where to find them. But many times we just say, I like this one or this is one I can tolerate. As I have read them I was thinking about all of these different drinks/broths that I have never tried, so I decided to give some of them a try for myself, not only in preparation of the dreaded pre-op diet but also for post-op . Here is my list (which includes ones I have tried so far ;-D):

Now - when I was on a medically supervised diet two years ago I got hooked on Syntrax Nectar powder mixes that my Doctor sold - I always stuck with chocolate Truffle and vanilla Bean Torte. I like them both, but my favorite is the Chocolate Truffle. I use it as both a quick Breakfast and a dessert. The Chocolate Truffle is a rich chocolate flavor without being too cloying. The powder mixes well with a spoon and perfectly with a mixer tumbler. The vanilla is great too and worked great as a mix in with plain greek yogurt. The vanilla bean is also a mellow not overpowering flavor which I like. I have never detected an aftertaste with either of these flavors, from the sweeteners or the Protein base. Although I always like to drink Water immediately after but that may just be a me and milk thing, I have done that.

I have also tried Syntrax Mint Cookie - I had it my head that it would be like my favorite ice cream, Chocolate Mint Chip, if I blended it with extra ice. And, well, no. But it was good, not too sweet and had a reasonable amount of mint chip flavor - I think I just built it up in my head. I need to get over the ice cream thing I guess...

Premiere Protein Chocolate RTD (single serve tetrapac from Costco) - I just tried this one, chilled ice cold, an it was delish, thick and rich, it reminded me of drinking liquid pudding. I could see that someone could get tired of it if it was consumed three or four times a day for several days - or if you're like me and chocolate pudding is heaven in a cup - you may love it...

So my thought is this - whatever Protein drinks you have tried - please post a tasting review of them here. Give a recent review which mentions why you like or dislike the product. How is the flavor - is this your go-to drink? If you didn't like it, why not? If you hate it - what drink do you like?

In support of this effort, I went to a few different websites (all recommended by fellow pals - thanks!) and ordered several sample packs of different brands and types, I have even ordered samples of the water based protein drinks from lemonade to chicken broth, as I receive them and try them I will post here and I invite you to do the same.

Thanks everyone!

After 11 months of trying different Protein Shakes I have settled on Muscle Milk Light. I get it from costco. Its a bit expensive, but is easy to get down and doesn't have that nauseating Protein after taste.

I think we must be neighbors SnohoGal..Im in Everett! :-)

I found that I prefer Premiere Protein shakes (both chocolate and vanilla) which I purchased from Sam's Club. They are 160 calories and have 30 grams of Protein.< /p>

My fave (so far) has been Zero Carb Isopure Cookies & Cream. It comes in lots of the usual flavors, plus some fruit flavors like punch, etc. It also has water-based ready-to-drink bottles. But I used the powders. It, too, is a little pricey but definitely goes down well and doesn't smell like baby formula. lol

If you find/know of any without Splenda/sucralose in them, please let me know. Splenda blocks my weight loss.

For RTDs, I've settled on premier and EAS low carb. I usually go vanilla since they seem to be the thinnest. Thin and easy flowing are important factors to my gag reflex. When I mix my own, I do Syntrax cappucino and Cookies n cream. And I over dilute them a little bit, again to make them thin.

When I was pre-op I did the Slim Fast low carb ready to drink bottles, which were good and creamy...but expensive. I just bought Isopure chocolate from Vitamin Shoppe (online is WAAAY cheaper, btw) and it's good, but not as chocolate-y as I would like...so I am still searching as I find I was not getting enough Protein, so 6oz in the morning seems to be helping me a lot! We shall see what the results are soon... but I am SO interested in what others have to say, since I know, now, I need to supplement my Protein :(

Try this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AZVQI46/ref=oh_details_o05_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It's a plant based Protein drink that is flavored with Stevia. I've tried it a few times and I don't hate it.

So far:

Pure Protein--chocolate is...odd tasting with a weird lingering aftertaste-got a 4 pack and dumped the other 3 (23 g)

EAS Myoplex light--thick, creamy, almost like fudge. Brief odd after-taste but will keep some in the refrigerator (20 g)

6 Star Pro Nutrition--vanilla, creamy, not overpowering in flavor, no aftertaste, thinner than Myoplex-waiting to try the chocolate (20 g)

Lean Body on the Go--14 ish ounces so pretty big, decent taste, chocolate thinner consistency than Myoplex, lingering aftertaste (25 g protein)

Muscle Milk reg single serving carton--chocolate tastes different than the powder mix, aftertaste present (not with powder), almost as thick as Myoplex. Decent, will keep some in the Fridge post-op (20 g)

powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury powders---tried chocolate, strawberry and vanilla (bariatric sample pack)-this will be my "go to" drink, it was awesome, no aftertaste, great flavor, 20 grams Protein

Muscle Milk light powder--chocolate ok but the Cake Batter flavor is TODIEFOR. Will be another "go to drink" to change things up.

Sorry, but I have been on a mission to find what I will be able to tolerate for several weeks. I still plan on trying the Premiere Protein Drink that everyone raves about but the above is what I have tried thus far...

I've been using unjury.com Protein powder for 2 years. I use the vanilla and plain with different additives or juicing. Sometimes fat-free Inti'l Delight coffee flavors. 2 Tsp. Tastes like a milkshake. Been very satisfied

with being able to MIX THINGS UP a bit.

Love this post! I'm just starting out on my weight loss journey and this is one of the main things I worry about. I am so picky, and I'm afraid I won't be able to find many things I can choke down. Does anyone know of Protein drinks that are fruit flavored like orange, grape, or punch?

There are several flavors from Syntrax Nectrasweet powders that are fruity, like fruit punch, lemonade, peach, etc. I really like the Syntrax line and it is available on Amazon. This line mixes easily and doesn't have an aftertaste or a gritty texture.

There are also some RTDs by Isopure that are punch type too, even grape. But I haven't tried them yet, the Isopures are on my list though!

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
