My daughter had her lap band 4 yrs ago on a Fri and went back to work on Mon, she has a desk job and 5 children at home. I am 62 yrs old and had mine done in mid Nov. I was sore but never took anything for pain, had no need for it, pain was not that serious to me. I spent 1 night in hosp because of using CPAP for breathing. The afternoon and evening of my first day home, I had nausea to the point of dry heaves. Took some meds I had on hand that didn't help, called dr and got suppositories that stopped the nausea. At my age, I could not have gone back to work in 3 days, but that is me, and for every response you get, the answer will be different because this is a very individual thing. What works for one may not work for anyone else.Listen to your dr and your own body. Best of luck to you, you can do this !

I took five weeks off from work just because I could...gotta milk it when you can. But by day three I was out shopping and felt fine. I should mention that I was one of the lucky ones who didn't experience any gas pains.

Best of luck to you.

I had my surgery on Friday and was back at work Monday morning. I also didn't tell anyone what I was having done so couldn't stay out long. I was sore and had some trouble at lunch time but as long as u have some gas pills and a pillow you should be ok.

I would think not only would you be tired, but if you take your pain meds, you will be commuting under the influence as well as not having a clear mind to accomplish your accounting duties accurately . There is no almost right when it comes to numbers. And meeting with clients? I say and do unusual things when I take pain meds... How about you? I wish you luck and best wishes that all goes as you plan! :-)

Thanks Kit...I would definitely not be on pain meds to commute, meet with clients, or perform my duties...but good point! I chose not to take pain meds after my C - sections because I didn't feel they were necessary, so hopefully this won't be any more invasive...fingers crossed!

I had surgery on Wednesday and went back to work on Monday. I had the gas pains and nausea. I was also very weak and tired.

You can do it, for sure.

As an aside. I had 2 csections and this surgery was a breeze compared to that.

I did the same thing...had surgery on Friday - went back to work on Monday but ended up needing that Wednesday off for rest. It just seemed I felt tired...

You can read what I wrote about my post surgery on my blog @

Let me know what you think and if this helps :)

I had surgery on a Monday and went back to my job teaching on that Friday. It was too much and I really should have rested! Bu the end of the day I was in terrible pain. PS I've had a c section too, this was a breeze compared to it. Every day got so much easier with this.

I think you will be alright, not feeling your best and a little sore but if you're just sitting at a desk you should be alright. I took a week off and thought it was a little longer than what I needed because I didn't have an active job. But you have to do what you have to do.

There was no way I'd have went back to work 3 days post op. I didn't have any bad pain or anything, but I took my meds...ALL of them. I took two weeks off work...probably a few days more than really necessary.
But each person is different. Best wishes on your upcoming surgery. :)

Thanks for your input catfish...With my upcoming schedule, I don't know that I will have much choice, but your story and what I've been reading does make me think...outside of gas pains and soreness of the incisions, what else should I be thinking about for post op?

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
