I had my surgery on March 7th ready to get the next couple months in the rear view but honestly my surgeon told me I would feel better than I expected sooner than I expected and he was right, each day has been a bit easier and today felt like things were starting to level out. Best wishes to all. Congratulations on your choice to take care of yourself.

Having a hard time sleeping I'm so nervous. I know some of this is normal. Just hard to believe I'm going to voluntarily put myself through this in 2 days. No cold feet, just reality settling in! Please keep posting your updates- helpful to hear how everyone is doing.

Tomorrow is my surgery day. I can't believe I just wrote that! I'm calm but pretty sure I'll bawl at the hospital. I didn't have a pre op diet but haven't really been interested in food the last few days. Not sure if it's nervousness or just want to get it started. My best to everyone!

. Kajun I was in the same boat my advise is start at the lowest dose MOM. I took the full capful and starting going 30 min later and has emergency liquid bm all day long. TMI right? You will feel better almost immediately but the dose cup says 2 - 4 and I took 4 then spent the rest of the day trying not to embarrass myself. Lol. Today was my day 4 by the way.

. Sizz. I wish you the best. I had surgery Friday and everyday has been a little easier for me. Had a rough weekend I won't lie but I was able to meet my 60/60 goal yesterday. Just focus on liquids the first day or two so you don't get dehydrated and cause more issues. I stopped the hydrocodone the 3 rd day out and did great on liquid Tylenol for the next two days. Yesterday didn't take any pain meds. I wish you all the best. I'm keeping my focus on the horizon when I'm past the liquids and soft food restriction. 6 weeks is NOTHING in view of the rest of my life. We can do this! Best wishes for your journey!

Janey, you'll do great. All those feelings and questions are universal I think. Just keep your eye on the prize- your new healthier life waiting just 6 weeks away. (Or so). What is a few weeks in light of the rest of your life? I had my sleeve on the 7th and it's been like learning to communicate with an alien in my body and believe me she's calling the shots. But we're working it out. It took me to day 4 to get close to the 60/60 goal. My advise is focus on hydration the first couple days so you don't have unnecessary issues from dehydration. There is no way I could get to goal the first two days but those days were learning what full feels like and how long until I need more. When my doctor told me it would mean 6-10 meals a day I now know why......you have to get in liquids too and can only do about 4 oz at a time. You'll do great. Best wishes for your journey.

I'm sitting in the hospital waiting on my surgery. I have been calm all the way until now. I spoke to my 9year old daughter over the phone and she started crying now I feel like I'm about to have a panic attack. Ughhhhhh

Slow deep breaths help sometimes. Think back to what brought you to this point I'm sure your daughter figured in there as well, you are doing this to Improve your quality of life.! It is a big decision but try to keep your eyes and thoughts on why you made this choice in the first place. Praying for peace of mind and rapid recovery. God bless you

These thoughts got worse for me as I was in the surgical holding area waiting to be wheeled into the OR. But just keep those positive thoughts in your head as to WHY you are doing this, and you will be fine. Next thing I knew I was in the OR and heard the anesthesiologist say "good night!" and I was waking up in recovery. It's not an easy ride, but worth it. Good luck :)

Hello all,

I have been a lurker for many months while I did my prerequisites for Kaiser. I was finally sleeved on March 6th. I cannot believe it has almost been a week. I am looking forward gaining more energy and eating soft foods!!! My pain is minimal and tolerable...

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
