Well guys I hired a personal trainer..Yup that's right!!!!!!!!! He comes on Tuesday for our first meeting...

This guy specializes in helping those who have had severe problems like recovering from heart and stroke..MS, long hospital stays..Oh yes that's me......When I was in the coma and my months after I lost all my muscle mass..I only have recovered a little because of continued illness...

I was told about this man as he suffered similar circumstances in the fact that he almost died. Lost all his muscle mass and started from the ground up rebuilding himself....

I am nervous but excited as well to get started...

I told him I have no desire to sweat, be sore or ever run a marathon.........He laughed and said you will sweat and you will be sore. running a Marathon is up to you or not....

Looking forward to the next step in this journey......Thought I would share it with you guys...........I am going to start exercising after 14 months!!!!!!!!!!!! Other then walking I might add!!

Way to go RJ! I started with a trainer this month, too. It's so worth it.

Just finished my third week. Sometimes I think I'm going to die it's so hard, and then I'm frustrated because I'm not losing lbs. on the scale. But, lots of NSV's:

  • My lean body mass was only 100 lbs. (out of 211) last spring, and now it's 111 llbs. I gained 10 lbs of muscle since then. Yay!
  • I'm not nearly as flabby and there are actually muscles under there that have been dormant for a decade
  • I can lift and move things that I couldn't before. I don't feel nearly so helpless as I did

Best of luck to you in this program. You can do it!

Congrats RJ!

I had a personal trainer for several years preWLS and kept her till I got to goal. I think it made a difference in getting to goal because I had a good muscle mass. I hate exercising, but I feel better when I do, physically and mentally. Now that I am at goal and in good Heath, I can't justify the expenses. But I miss it!

RJ, would you mind giving an idea of what the trainer has you do everyday. I am working with a variety seniors - level strength training and body movement, but I am sure some of us achy old timers would like to know what he has you do, so maybe we could follow along?

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
