February Surgeries

Recommended Posts

My surgery date is Feb. 18th. I can't believe I'm a month away? Sadly I already started a Protein diet. I was just doing strictly protein but now I've started the 2 shakes plus a dinner. Plus, I'm still having a couple of additional protein Snacks. I start the real deal 2 wk pre op diet on Feb. 4 no protein snacks I think what I'm dreading the most is the three day liquid diet before surgery. I'll be at a horse show with my daughter for those three days. I don't know how I'm going to do it. But I know I will. I have no choice.

Hiya

Great news...just one month countdown.

My op is one week today and I have been doing the pre op diet for 5 weeks. By the 29th it will have been 6 weeks. I have been doing two high Protein shakes (Syntrax Nectar) that I make into Frappes, then a salad with lean meat.

Three days prior to surgery I have to do all liquid for two days and of course nil by mouth after midnight on the 28th.

You know what I'm dreading most? The Magnesium Citrate that I have to take on the 27th...yuk!

Oh well...the things we have to do!...lol

Anyway...all the best...

Xx

I've been on my pre-surgery diet for a month already and have my surgery in 13 days! I drink my Protein supplement shakes 3 times a day, have a lean cuisine for lunch with a 100 cal. greek yogurt and Water. I've been using the Mio flavorings for Water instead of my old huge glass of fruit juice in the morning and I'm able to tolerate it pretty well. I have a liquid diet the 2 days prior to surgery, and I have to stop all my blood thinning medications, herbal supplements, and caffeine 10 days prior to the surgery date of 2/4/14! When I get super hungry, I eat a dill pickle or a piece of fruit. I have been told to lose 10 pounds before surgery - and I'm down 8! 2 more to go..... (sigh). I hope we do really well! Good Luck and I'm anxious to hear how it goes with you. :)

I'm so jealous of your pre op diets!! I am on a 3 week clear liquid diet no food what so ever . Started it Monday and already down 8 lbs but it's gonna be a tough 3 wks

Wow! So sorry... I feel bad complaining about my three day liquid diet. Keep up the good work. My BMI is high (51.6) and I would like to bring it down below 49.. I know I have lost some weight but I think you have inspired me.. I really need to lose about 15 more pounds before my surgery. Good luck. I would love to hear what your drinking..

Do you have a liquid diet to follow a few days before your surgery. There are so many different pre op diets. I guess it depends on each individual person. Good luck!!

Hi! Just started my liquid diet with 1 small meal a day..4 days ago! I'm having RNY Gastric Bypass Feb 4th! Started this whole process in September and can't believe the count down is on! I'm 5 feet 1 inch... Weigh 234.. BMI=43. Having a hard time with the 2 week diet because I'm so hungry and just want to eat instead of drinking all these shakes ( which I like the taste) but aren't filling me up! Tonight I cheated and had a few cookies...feel real guilty... But this is hard! What if my liver doesn't shrink? Will I have gone through this whole process to be told my liver didn't shrink enough so the surgery was not done!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
