I keep forgetting I'm not actually getting the "Lap"-Band...

I am getting the realize band. I am wondering if there is really a huge difference between the two and if the (in my opinion) second-rate band will be just as good as the lap-band. I know they are just brand names however they differ slightly.

I have no idea what the difference is, although I have heard people explain it so I'm sure someone whi knows will share their knowledge...

I have had the "realize" brand for 3 years now....never had any problems...

The most common complaint I read here is from people who say their ports have flipped....I know mine is anchored to the abdominal muscle wall making it highly impossible to move at all....

Is the realize band the only one that has this feature? Also, my port...even though it sticks out like a golf ball under my skin, is the low profile port, that come with the Realize brand....

(BTW, I have my theory as to why ports flip, not the users fault but something else)

when i joined the forum, i read people getting the lap band and the realize band...so on my question list to ask dr, i asked what was i getting...he said the lap band (allergen). i said why and he said it is the one he uses and likes......works for me......

so whichever you get, do the best you can (follow dr orders/instructions) for best results.. i have seen great losses on EACH band name.....and any WLS.....i believe the patient is what makes a WLS work or not....... :)

I have the Allergan lapband. I think they're pretty similar. I didn't have a choice, but I do remember reading about a lower profile port in the realize band. Also, there was a very slight difference in the 'cushion' of the band (where the fill goes for restriction), but I don't remember specifics.

I can't answer this question. I, myself have a lapband. Saying that, I know several people with a realized band & they have successfully lost thier weight. I don't think I would be too concerned.

I, also, have the Allergen brand band. I always thought the realize band was just a brand. so, I don't know the difference, either!Karen..aka.kll724

I have the Allergen. There are minor differences, it seems that Lap-band users lose at a faster rate, I don't get it...they aren't that much different.

I have a Realize band as does my Wife. Here is a link to a page that has a side by side comparison.

I have a Realize band. The way my doctor explained it is the lap band is a high pressure band, where the Realize band is a lower pressure. He also told me it will take longer to get to the green zone with the Realize band.

Thanx everyone and thanx especially to Jim1967 for the side by side comparison. The statistics for loss according to that chart look slightly more promising for realize band. Either way... I'm very excited that I have only 9 more days to go (single digits now! Heck yeah!) until I am banded! Can't wait to see the results! Hoping not too quickly though because I also fear sagging skin

I have the allergan and doc put in same spot and does the same as yours. She pokes out every day but doesn't go anywhere lol.

Thanks for the link. That answered a lot of my questions. I knew I had the AP Standard 10 but after reading what other bandsters had I too was curious about the differences.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
