Hi All, I was banded 3/14/07 and I wasn't hungery til two days ago. I have tried calling my nutritionist twice now with no responce from her.I have been on Clear Liquids for eight days, I'm not hungery all of the time but afternoon toward evening I'm starving. I'm suppose to stay on clear liquids til the 29th but I don't think I can stand this much longer. Any suggestions since my nutritionist won't return my calls???? Thanks

Hi X-ray Chic, I was banded on March 19th. My doctor gave me a menu saying to follow the clear liquids for a few days and then try to start regular liquids-- things that can run off a spoon such as blenderized Soup, creamed soup made with nonfat or 1% milk, Protein supplement drink, thinned cream of wheat Cereal, thinned mashed potatoes, thinned sugar free pudding, thinned sugar free yogurt, sugar free popsicles. The different flavors in the Soups have really helped me. We can do this !!

I would honestly be more concerned with the lack of support from your nutritionist, than the hunger at this point. Are you making sure to get in Protein in your liquids? It helps some with the hunger. Not a lot but some.

I was 2 weeks of clear liquids, and it was hard for a few days, but then I got to where I DID anything to stay busy, and away from food! Then I had 2 more weeks of full liquids, and then mushies...my Dr. was very strict in his post op recovery diet. He explained and showed us why...so I did my best to follow it. I think I jumped the changes by a couple of days each to be honest!!

I was able to have the popsicles (SF) during the clear stage---and they seemed to help---they kept my hands involved!

Is your nutritionist connected with your Dr.? If she is, I would call the Dr. to find out why you do not get a call back. That is not a good thing. You (or your insurance) pay her---not the other way around! You deserve to have your concerns answered, however trivial she may find them, and regardless whether she has to answer the same question for every patient. Does a 2nd grade teacher get to refuse to answer the same question for every student? Nope, and neither should the nutritionist---if you pay for her to guide you through this, she should at least return the call!

Good Luck!

Kat

Meat at this stage is a definite no no! But it is not the only one. Cream Soups or pureed foods thin enough to go through a straw with NO pieces however small---it should be liquified. You just do not want your stomach to try to digest it, which causes your stomach to move, and can pop stitches. Your lower stomach was brought up and over the band and stitched to hold the band in proper position. If you eat and cause your stomach to begin the churning process it uses to digest and pass food it can pop the stitches. So if you move on to creamy things, just be sure there are no pieces, strain it if necessary. One of those situations where, you are best following your Dr.'s orders, but in any case better safe than sorry!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
