I originally did the band with New York Bariatric group but I wasn't happy with the band or the staff. I been with Dr Castro out of New York Hospital Queens in Flushing. I Love him and the staff!! He removed my band and did my sleeve. Anyone who does bariatric surgery in the hospital does it with him. He is very skilled and has excellent bedside manner. His clinical coordinator Amy is also excellent she works with you and the insurance company aggressively to get you not only to surgery day but to successfully be on the losing side.

so you had the sleeve right away after the band was removed? how long ago did you have it done? how are you feeling? any regrets or problems along the way or has it all been good?

I had the band removed in oct 2013. Dr Castro will not do revisions in all in one surgery because he wants the scar tissue to heal. He says he gets better results that way. It didn't matter to me cuz I was still doing my whole approval process. Anyway I was afraid since the band and the sleeve were both restrictive devises I would have the same issues. Well I was sleeved on March 31 and I feel the difference immediately. I have never felt restriction like this! I love it. I am between purée and full liquids now. With purée a few bites and I am full... Like all you can eat buffet full. With full liquids I can only get in 4oz. I haven't felt this good physically in about 2 years. I am down 15 pounds since my surgery date and hopefully more when I weight in tomorrow. If 15 pounds down feel this good can't imagine how 50 or 100 will feel!

Try Dr. McMullen, I have an appointment with her on the 22nd of this month I called many different offices and hers was the best and just with the one phone call to her office I learned so much info about gastric sleeve even things I didn't yet research and I got all my paperwork mailed to me in less then a week and all my insurance questions answered in less then 8 minutes. She is located in syosset and affiliated with north shore, lij, syosset hospital and a few others I did research on her and is one of the best. Good luck

Dr. McMullen is my surgeon!!! I love her and her staff. She's at Syosett hospital and manhassett too. My surgery is April 21st. Ask me any questions you want!

she must be fairly new to that group because I saw a another doctor about 2 years ago when I first started researching and he told me he wouldnt do my sleeve and he wanted me to have a bypass. he said id have too much scar tissue because of the band. I had my band surgery at that practice by Dr Geiss and I was surprised this dr wouldn't touch me. I didn't like him at all and i flt so hopeless so i looked into a few other drs and had consults with them to see if they felt the same way and they didnt. they did say it was more risk but felt it would be okay. im so confused

wow...it sounds like you have no regrets and you are loving the sleeve. That helps so much to hear that. how did you manage to get past any of the fear your might have had prior to the surgery?

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
