Pre-op Weight Loss

Recommended Posts

The surgeon I am going with isn't requiring me to do a pre-op diet. My date is January 20th. He said if I gain my surgery will be cancelled. I am stressed because my weight fluctuates 2-3 lbs all the time no matter what. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on what I can do to make sure I dont gain between now and then. I put myself on a Protein Shake diet similar to slim fast and am walking but still my weight fluctuates. Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks!

Pre-op Protein diet, tons of Water to flush your system constantly (divide your weight in half and divide that by 64oz and that how many glasses of Water to drink) and exercise should do it. Then request morning visits with the doctor/nutritionist for better results.

I lost 25 pounds on my pre-op diet doing this: Consuming 60 grams of Protein a day....eat Protein first at every meal....next eat your veggies, then a small serving of fruit if you are hungry for it. I was limited to 1100 calories. You would be surprised how quickly they add up when you are completely honest with yourself.

One of your best pre-op tools will be Portion Control. You cannot control that which you do not measure. Keep a log of EVERY bite or sip that goes in your mouth to raise your awareness of what you are actually eating. Many of us on the forum use myfitnesspal.com.

Do not drink any calories unless it's those Protein shakes recommended by our doctors. If you are sedentary, get up and move around. I wish you good luck and good health.

I did the Pure Protein shakes 2-4 a day and up to 3 cups total of fruit, veggies, or low fat yogurt under 20 gm carbs. I lost 20 lbs presurgery.

I did 3 high Protein Shakes (read the label because things like slim fast are way high in carbs) and unlimited green veggies (lettuce, spinach, broccoli, green beans). Substituted one shake/day with broth with added unflavored Protein Powder for variety. Lost 22 pounds in 16 days.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
