Rockin it, then hit a wall! thoughts please

Recommended Posts

So with the exception of the 3 week stall I've been rockin my sleeve! Between thanksgiving and New year's eve I lost almost 20lbs. Then I started doing Zumba and I've hit a wall. Nothing major but ill be 11 weeks post op tomorrow and I'm just wondering if the exercise has put my body into some kind of shock or if I'm heading into a stall or something. I haven't gone 5 days without losing anything since early on. With regard to stalls , (which I understand are normal), I'm curious about what's typical. I am 5'5 started at about 250lbs. Three week stall with tiny losses until about 6 weeks. Then 5 weeks of non stop awesome loss. Now stuck at 201.2-201.7 lbs. For 5 days. Just curious about your thoughts on my progress and where I should go from here. If I am heading into an actual stall, how long does it usually last at this point? Also, I am about 1 week away from TOM. Thanks

Hello...I have this issue as well. I am 3 months post op. I was losing a pound a day and very happy about that but as of 12/15 I hit 176 and I have been up and down a pound since then. I have hit a wall as well. My eating habits are the same and I am wondering what happened. Any comments would be helpful.

Seela, I hit 12 weeks then stalled for over 4 weeks. That's not said to discourage you, just to let you see that losing weight with a sleeve is rarely steady or linear even if it starts out that way. I always relate it to a flight of stairs - I would step down steadily, then plateau for a wee while standing in the same step, then drop again, then plateau and so on.

The trick is to hold your nerve and keep doing the Protein, drinking and moving as per your plan. Try not to stress as that won't help. It will pass, just hang in there, you're doing really well.

Thanks, I appreciate your response. It's just weird, having such a steady loss then BAM! nothing.

Don't forget that when your weight loss stalls, your still losing inches. It's your body adjusting to lbs lost and inches lost.... I liked losing inches more bc it was rewarding to buy new clothes and the clothes I really loved... :P The rest will come off, hang in there and Celebrate the loss you have already. That's an accomplishment... :P Also you may be retaining Water due to TOM.... :P

Officially, a stall is 2 weeks with no movement... not even an oz! This is normal.... I know I used to think I was stalling when really, things had just slowed down. I have had a couple of real stalls, and even a big long gain, but keep on track, and the body will lose sooner or later.

I didn't know there was an "official" period of time that constitutes a stall. Lol... I hope this mini baby stall doesn't last two weeks or longer. That would suck

Yes it would(big time!), but it can still be a normal thing to happen to a person who is doing all the right things.

Well... I decided to fall off the wagon, if you will, and I had three days of wtf am I doing to myself eating. Total self sabotage. Posted about it, cried over it, then did Zumba and got back to basics. Mini 5 day stall broken and this morning I hit ONEDERLAND! Thanks to everyone for your support. I've said it before and I'll say it again... I couldn't do this without all of the suppoget I get here. Thanks

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
