Take your pain meds, you probably need some for a few days. If your surgeon did not give you any, get some Tylenol liquid. also, getting up and walking helps to move the gas around. Not all the pain is gas you just had surgery, you know! best wishes, Karen..aka.kll724

Hi Sergeen, hope you have a better day today! The walking around really helped me so much -- my body needed to shrug off the anesthesia and the walking helped kick into healing mode. I parked myself in a recliner and watched movies, drank tea and had Popsicles but every time I had to get up to pee I got my shoes on and did laps around our driving circle. It really helped. And I told myself it wasn't as bad as some other things -- for me I hate dentistry so that was a good comparison, or having a cracked rib, back seriously out....I just kept remembering this surgery was at least for something, for me and my health. Hang on to your purpose and know that a few months from now you probably won't be able to recall these first few days very well. Let us know how you're doing!

I was banded on December 26 so it has been 8 days. No pain at all now and I also had hernia repair when he placed band. The first four days are rough take it easy you did have surgery. In a few days you will be pain free. I'm just tired still otherwise maybe a one on the pain scale.

I can't wait for the pain to go away I had a hernia repair too thought that was the reason it hurts so bad but you guys are right it was surgery I can't just expect the pain to go away that quick I've been walking around a lot which helps a whole lot

lets see. these are the things everyone says helps

pain medication. ibuprophen over tylenol but the medication your doctor set you home with should do the job

heating pad

ice packs to incisions

walking

gas-x

beano

and rest giving yourself time to heal. you have sutures where your lapband and port have been placed as well as your hernia.

fluids

good luck and speedy recovery to you

I was banded on Tuesday and left the hospital on Sunday.

They gave me painkillers and I didn't have any pain. The only problem was getting up or out of bed decause the incisions ached.

I had also my gallbladder taken away during the same operation. No pain, but the incisions on both sides of belly prevented me from moving freely.

I hope you are better now.

Time is the best doctor and medicine

Heating pad on the left shoulder and ice pack on the incisions/port area. Definitely take the pain meds. I liked the gas-x chewables cherry flavor. The strips didn't help me. Also, read the instructions. I kept trying to take one but it said 1-2. When I started taking 2 at a time (not exceeding the recommended dosage), it helped more. Walking, walking and more walking helped as well. Hope you're starting to feel better. I think it took me about a week to finally get the shoulder pain to go away and a few more days before the port site to not scream at me if I moved wrong.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
