slipped band picture

I'm not aware of any "new" complications. There is a new band out caleld the AP band...there is some info posted about it on my forum.

hi all,

I've only had my band since 21st March and tonight for some reason i've had some trouble getting down even sloppy stuff, I've regretfully had to be sick 3 times and now i've noticed what looks like a small amount of blood. Any idea's?

If you're vomiting any blood, you really need to see your surgeon ASAP. It could be a minor problem but there is no way to know without an exam and possibly some testing. Stay on Clear Liquids and call your MD.

Can something like stomach cramps cause slippage? What if I get stomach flu or have a lactose intolerance reaction? My band was sutured inside to help hold it in place, that much I know. Hopefully I haven't pulled those stitches out or anything.

I have to admit that I haven't followed the post-op diet as well as I should... I say to myself 'well if I puree this, I could eat it thru a straw, but I'm at work and don't have a blender, so if I chew it really good and have a little drink, isn't that like a puree?' Not sure if I am hurting myself or not, but I'm struggling with the 2 wks I have remaining on the mushy stage.

Along the lines of slippage fears, I also would love to have a 2nd baby, but I suffer from hyperemesis, so I fear that the morning sickness would move the band. I tried every prescription anti-nausea med out there and still threw up pretty regularly for the whole 9 mos. :-(

Dr. C, you're da bomb!! I keep hearing about pouch stretching..... does that contribute to a slip as well??

My doctor said he stitched a small portion of my stomach around the band in order to help prevent slippage. My question is if I get the stomach virus that seems to go around every year and have sever vomiting with that, is there a good possibility of slippage? After all that case scenerio is our of our control.

All surgeons should do this (stitch the stomach around the band to prevent slippage). Any vomiting puts you at risk for a slip, it's like playing Russian roulette, most of the time it's ok but occasionally the outcome is not so good.

Dr.C thanks for posting the picture, but I realized I've never seen a picture of the band properly placed and so I'm guessing where the slipped area is. Could you possibly post a "normal" and a "slipped" side by side?

How many of the surgeons usually use stitches to stitch the stomach around the band to prevent slippage? Would that have prevented the slip from occuring? And is that normal proceedure?

I am just curious as to what foods you recommend us "Bandsters" stay away from. What foods can "irritate" the band. I think salad (lettuce) is my enemy. I have had the band for 2 years and was in and out of my doc's office getting fills, Fluid removed, with little weight loss. NOt to mention my doc at the time had terrible bedside manner! Anyway, I have switched docs and am getting much better support, but got into the same trouble with my band being too tight and we nailed "salad" as the culprit. What is your opinion on this?

OK...so I see now! for the explantion yo just gave I realized that my band slipped.I have been having a lot of regurgitation and brochoaspiration and got into this site in search of answers... I throw up a lot, almost everythingI eat. I had my last fill in Sep 06 and since them I fill now tighter than then. Since January I have been having this nocturnal episodes of regurgitation which are getting very severe

OK, so I'm now terrified that I have a slip. I just returned from spending 2 weeks at the beach, and I think I overate every night. I have had 5 fills (my doc's staff refuse to tell how much of a fill I have), but I can still eat absolutely anything. I ate a lot of shrimp almost every night. I don't know what happened to me. I was just out of control. Now I'm having some pain, some tightness (which I never experience), and lots of nightime reflux. I'm trying to live on SlimFast for a few days to see what happens. Any advice????

      On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
      Soooo I am coming to a realization
      of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

        Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

        Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

        I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

        I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

        BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

      Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
