Hi,

I'm new here...

I am 5 days post op revision surgery (band-sleeve).

I'm feeling absolutely fantastic! No gas pain, no incision pain...etc

But I am feeling hungry with the little food I'm getting, should I risk eating something heavier? Like, Cereal n milk? A banana?

Wanna eat something....I don't love my Protein shake, but I'll have it anyway.

Any suggestions for something ok to eat at this early stage??

My doctor's instructions say only Clear liquids my first week post op, and full liquids my second week. Your tummy is healing. I would stick with liquids. Are you on a medication for acid (Pepsid, etc.) They say that sometimes too much acid in the stomach makes you feels hungry.

I would not eat solid food. What does your doctor's post op instructions say?

Liquids only until you are approved for the next phase! Please don't risk a leak or abscess by rushing your sleeve's healing. My surgeon and NUT both made us listen to descriptions of what happened to people who didn't follow the guidelines. It was gruesome but an effective deterrent. Try some clear Soups if you are wanting something savory and when you are approved for non-clear liquids (this or next week), I can recommend the Proti Diet Soups (chicken and Tomato are non-lumpy and even better with Greek yogurt). If you have any doubts, call your surgeon and/or NUT to make sure you are eating the right phase of foods.

No medication for acid.

Week 1-2 liquid diet. Doesn't have to be clear though...

I'm wondering if a bowl of soggy bran flakes n milk is soft enough for now??

Not according to my surgeon. He and my NUT were adamant that I not have any lumps or bumps for the first 3 weeks. This meant I could have yogurt but not with added (even soft) fruit unless it was pulverized-blended. No seeds or pulpy stuff. At 3 weeks I could add stuff like canned tuna and a poached egg.

Lol, soggy bran flakes are NOT liquid…sorry. You've come this far, don't talk yourself into breaking the rules 5 days out. And if you think your doctor would approve, call him/her to ask FIRST.

Seriously, I would ask doc about an antacid. I have heard SO many people say this helped with their hunger, and it was like night and day after they took an antacid.

If you're full liquids you can do more with creamy Soups and shakes. But for the love of God, bran? That tears up my insides when I'm healthy.

I can't stress enough that you need to stick to plan. Please don't make any substitutions or move forward without full approval. And the PPI really should help.

Hi...I'm also a band-sleeve person and 6 months out. I also think you need some acid meds, it will help with that feeling. I had the meds right out of surgery but forgot to take it about day 8 out of surgery and got a weird feeling...kinda like hunger but really just empty feeling. Try the meds and then call your NUT. I know being only 45lbs successful with the band and all the complications I had with it....this is my last chance and I want to follow the DR/NUT program to the letter. NOTHING is more important to me than changing my body and mind to a healthy place for the rest of my life. It is an everyday struggle that requires more thinking and feeling than I ever wanted but doing it and climbing those obstacles makes me feel great about myself. PLEASE don't hurt yourself by eating out of plan guidelines....you will be off liquids before you know it.

It sounds to me like you head hungry and thinking the "if Only I had this I would feel better" Please please listen to your Dr and Nut the outcome of going to ER and having surgery is not worth it.

I know that gnawing hunger feeling. Started feeling hunger on day 10 (and I was taking Prilosec 2x a day). I was on full liquids for 4 weeks. Longest 4 weeks of my life. I cheated on week 2 after my lapband 4 yrs ago but this time not only did I have the fear of food causing a leak but I'm also now married - to the "Food Nazi" and I know darn well he'd tattle on me to my dr.

I was allowed soupy cream of wheat or maltomeal, yogurt, pudding, cream Soups +the other liquids. I ate every hour it seemed like. I'd be full for about an hour then hungry again. If I never see another cup of split pea Soup it'll be too soon.

You can do this. I wouldn't risk a leak. I was afraid to eat Jello post op cuz I was afraid it was too solid. Took a week before I mustered up the courage to try it. If ur truly hungry, try some yogurt or cream of wheat (thinned). NO CEREAL!

Good luck!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
