Specialized Bariatrics/Dr Lopez

Recommended Posts

Teensiebaby,

All you need to do is Google Dr. Alejandro Lopez Specialized Bariatrics, and his information is all there. I very much doubt that your insurance will pay for you to go to him, as he is in Mexico. But if you end up going the self pay route, you should check him out.

Mine is scheduled for October 23 in TJ with Dr Lopez. Anything else any pros can tell me to calm my nerves?

Hi

I actually just finished 4 months and am down 100lbs. No problems to report other than having to purchase several sets of new clothes. Follow the after care carefully and you'll be fine. Don't overdo anything! Remember that it takes about 3 months for your stomach pouch to heal so take it easy and you should have great success.

I'm in Vernon, let's keep in touch. It would be nice to be in touch with someone nearby.

Good luck! Dr Lopez is one of the best!

I want to clear something up. Specialized bariatrics is not 100% owned by Drs. Lopez and Osuna. If someone is telling you there is no "middle man" (a coordinator or company) that is not a true statement. Specialized bariatrics is 50% owned by the owner of Mexico bariatrics and they do the sales for that company.

I'm not saying that anyone deliberately lied to you. Perhaps there was a misunderstanding.

A Lighter Me has no "drama". The owner (myself) has been in this business for over 11 years in Tijuana. Can you tell me if someone at specialized bariatrics / MBC specifically told you that? I was going to send you a PM, but I can't find anything showing that I can send a PM to you. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Hi Peanutz,

I did a lot of research on Dr. Lopez and it looks like he was tired of all the drama that was coming from having a "middle man", so he and his wife started their own business. By doing this, they are not only able to cut out the drama, but cut costs, too. I also couldn't find anything but good reviews about him and Hospital MI Doctor sounds like it will be just fine, too.

Cathy should have emailed you the pre-op diet. If not, just email her and ask her for another copy - She's a sweetheart. The preo-op diet should start 2 weeks prior to surgery, with a "cleanse" 3 days prior to surgery. My mom and I are both having the sleeve surgery done on January 20, so our pre-op diet starts January 6. I'm not too excited about that part, but I think it's what I need to jumpstart my "new" life. I'm also hoping that the pre-op and immediately-after-surgery-post-op diets will help me to rid sugar from my system once and for all.

Hi NoMoreChubby. I would like to private message you if you will let me. I am bothered by rumors that A Lighter Me has drama! I also don't understand why you were told that Dr. Lopez was tired of a middle man when now sharing 50% of his company, this coordinator partner is earning 50% of the profit. That is MUCH more than a regular coordinator earns!!

I was sleeved by Dr. Lopez in Puerto Vallarta on August 13th. Cathy was my contact at Specialized Bariatrics. Cathy was WONDERFUL to deal with prior to my surgery (which I scheduled in April of this year), then AnnaKaren in PV, the nurses at the hospital and of course Dr. Lopez and his team. I was SO NERVOUS about going to Mexico, but everything went according to plan AND I was able to enjoy some of Mexico with my sister for a few days at a really lovely Marriott. I am almost 3 months out, have lost 56 lbs., lots of inches and have never felt better, healthier and more positive.

I'm going to be sleeved on Dec. 20th by Dr. Alejandro Lopez. If anyone else is going to Mexico at that time please let me know. I'm going alone and would be nice to team up with someone.

zsflower,

Hi everyone, I am new to this site. I'm scheduled to have surgery with Dr. Lopez jan 20, 2015, but it sounds like there are a few of you scheduled on that date as well. I'm thinking perhaps I should reschedule my surgery for the 21st. If your having surgery on the 20th with dr. Lopez - specialized bariatrics would you mind letting me know what procedure your having?

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
