No leak test, no drain?

Recommended Posts

I'm in the hospital right now and was sleeved yesterday. When I asked about the leak test I was told I would'nt be getting one because I don't have a drain. Does this sound normal? Did anyone else not need a leak test or not have a drain? Now I'm worried.

I didn't have one, the do fill it with air and your abdomen with saline solution to check for leaks before they close you up.

Please don't worry.

I had 3 leak tests - I believe one in OR, then one where I swallowed blue dye to see if it came out in my drain. Then a 3rd one under fluoroscopy where I drank a radiopaque dye and was scanned to watch for leaks. This was done the day after surgery & it was only when I passed this test that I was allowed more than ice chips.

3 1/2 years out. No drain, no leak test just an excellent surgeon who has never had a sleeve problem!!

I had no drain but same leak test as above. Horrible tasting dye but only needed a couple sips.

So I wonder if any leaks are found during these post op leak tests. Everything is really swollen at first. All these years reading these forums, the few leaks that do show up are always a week or several down the road. Don't stress about it.

I was sleeved 11/11 and my dr does leak test while doing surgery and then I have 1 the next morning where I had to drink liquid and watch it go through me on screen and make sure it stays in stomach

No drain and no leak test, although a test was done at the end of surgery while I was still "out".

I didn't have a drain or any kind of leak test. I keep reading post about people having leak test so I dunno.

I had no drain, and if there was any leak test it was while I was under anesthesia.

Thank you. It just seemed that everyone had a leak test and drain so I was concerned about not having one. I'm still having a hard time figuring out what full feels like? I feel bloated so maybe that's it. My doctor gave me a cup of Water and told me to just drink it at my own pace. I've been worried that I might drink too much or too fast but I've been taking it slow and so far so good.

Different surgeon different protocol. Test doesn't prevent leaks and from my observations seldom detects them. Leaks are often mentioned on these forums weeks post op not often found in test.

I drank a shot glass of Water about every 15 minutes those first days. Do you have a info or guidelines from your surgeon or nutritionalist?

It will be weeks before you can feel everything due to nerves being damaged by surgery. Strongly recommend you eat and drink by the clock and by the measuring spoon and cup. This can help you avoid overeating.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
