Two or Three Meals

Recommended Posts

I am a relatively new bander((August 27th). My doctor and my booklet have told me since the beginning to eat three small meals and a Protein shake-no Snacks in between meals. At my last meeting with my nutritionist, she told me to eat two small meals and a protein shake-no snacks in between meals! I have been losing weight at a steady pace, so I don't understand why I have two different directives. What are others doing?

i am sorry but your nutritionist is wrong. continue doing what your doctor has ordered. if that has been working for you than don't change anything. besides 2 meals a day is not enough. there is no way you can get your nutritional needs met with that.

only 2???

Ask your question here and I'm sure you're going to get a lot more "Opinions"

I'd say do what works for you...everyone is different even though there are people who refuse to admit that....

Myself? I have absolutely no eating schedule, other than a high protein organic smoothie in the early morning to get me started....

There's a woman in one of my groups who has about 5-6 small snacks throughout the day, because her band limits her intake...and her Dr. suggested she do this....

i say do what your dr advises (and nutr also)

but def do what works.....eat when hungry, eat smart and it seems

you are doing well.....if in doubt, call and ask your dr and get their opinion on it..

Yes, some surgeon actually recommend 5-6 small meals. I would listen to your own surgeon's advice! Karen..aka..kll724

What isn't broke shouldn't be fixed!!

I think this should be a "what works for YOU" type of plan. Some people eat 1 meal a day with their bands, some eat 5-6 tiny meals a day, some eat 3 with no Snacks.

If you are losing weight and not hungry, THAT'S what matters.

Good luck.

If I have a good Breakfast, and by good I mean a dense Protein, I won't be hungry for close to 5 hours. On these days I usually only have two meals and a snack of nuts or a cold cut roll. I could never really see myself having 3 full meals ever again in my LIFE.

Thank you, gastric band! ;)

I was banded a week ago today. I have huge cravings Pickle Juice and anything with vinegar. I know I can eat or drink anything as the swelling has went down. It is a HUGE struggle not to start eating everything again. I lost 16 pounds so far. I got on the scale today and it said I was up four pounds! Prolly from all the pickle juice I have been sipping. Help!

Always follow your doctor's orders first and your band second. Everyday is different for me. Some days I can eat all day long and other days I drink all day (coffee, tea, Protein shakes) etc. It just depends. Good luck.

be very careful with pickled anything. it is loaded with sodium. perhaps you need your sodium checked. i saw a medical show where this woman craved salty pickled anything. it turned out she was low in sodium and was just trying to do what her body was telling her to. good luck

My doctor's booklet has me with 5-6 small meals/snacks throughout the day. As long as I don't drink after eating, I'm not hungry that often, but I try to drink a Protein shake or two to ensure I get my Protein counts up there.

I agree with the others - follow your doc first and then do what you need to do. You didn't state if you were hungry in between meals or not. If you are not hungry, your nutritionist might have suggested subbing the meal for the shake to increase your protein and calorie count.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
