December post ops

I called my dr office today because I honestly don't feel like I've had the surgery. I have no issues at all, I'm grateful for that. I think part of it is the fact that I did a ton of positive self-talk that I was going to have a great surgery with no issues. Anyway, my friend had the surgery 8 months ago, had many issues with not being able to eat, drink and was just really ill. I'm 1 week post op and I think I could totally go back to work though I'm not yet. I have struggled with not having the full feeling so wanting to eat more and not being super strict with what I'm supposed to eat per that weeks food listings. I called the office today just to make sure that this was all normal and they said yes but that I need to remember to protect my pouch. I have to just keep telling myself that. I don't know what happens if I overeat and what happens to the pouch but I don't want to find out.

Well, you're not alone. I'm calling my doc tomorrow because I feel the exact same way!

I have dreams every night since surgery that I over eat. I dream of food. So weird. I never really realized how addicted to food I am... I never ate to survive... I ate for a 'fix'...

I've been having dreams that I eat something and then yell, "wait, I can't eat that!!" lol

I've read a lot of people actually going thru this and the answer was always that the nerve endings in the pouch weren't healed and that's why people didn't feel full. From what I read, many times over, it will develop within a couple of months once the pouch heals completely. So for him to say its "normal" is prob true just based on the many posts I've read here and the articles online I've also read. (Ok so I'm a research junkie! Lol.... Maybe even borderline addict! Hahaha)

Hope this was helpful in someway to someone! :)

My tastes have definitely changed. For example, the flavored Protein Shakes I had before surgery, I can't stomach now. They're way too sweet. Syrupy sweet. Also, Water doesn't taste right. My NUT said I could add a little bit of crystal light to the water or a small piece of fruit to improve the flavor of water. That worked. My wife tried it and said it's too watered down for her. But it tastes best to me. I'm including a list of what tastes good to me now, so far. I've tried many things pureed, and several things I used to like are now revolting. They aren't on the list below. If you want to know the things I can't stand now, let me know. So here's the good stuff pureed, so far: Apple sauce, Cottage cheese, String cheese, Bacon, Vegetable/tomato juice, Water, with a tiny bit of crystal light or a tiny piece of fruit, Non-fat yogurts, unflavored Protein shakes, Scrambled eggs, and Mashed potatoes from box. What are your favorites so far?

That list sounds similar to mine. I'm on week 2 post op RNY on Dec 30. I've considered puréeing everything in our house, but have only actually puréed Mac n Cheese with tuna ( wasn't bad tasted like cheese wiz) eating mashed and gravy, applesauce unsweetened, loads of Fage Greek yogurt with Splenda , broths, Powerade Zero, a Laughing cow cheese triangle per day, and I think I have issues with some sugar substitutes. It seems like I can drink normally, no huge issues there.

Weird stuff: Crystal Light was way too sweet after surgery, couldn't stand the smells from the cleaning persons products in hospital.

Yes, it sounds familiar. I have just tried Greek yogurt, and if I work at it, I can almost imagine it as soft ice cream! ;-) My main thing right now is focusing on eating no more than a teaspoon at a time and waiting to see if that's too much--my pouch tells me loud and clear when that happens! The pain is the worst! I have to always remember to be totally conscious of everything I put in my mouth now.

I am on the soft food phase but my stomach is wanting to act up on me now! I found that pan seared flounder set very well on my stomach everything else feels heavy! I have only tried corn tortillas but no crackers or bread! My booklet of instructions say breads will not sit well at this point! I think when your pouch is older maybe but then again everyone is different!

Has anyone had slow bleeding from pouch stoma? I'm in the hospital now. Had an upper GI. And they cauterized the bleeders. I should be released tomorrow.

Wait, we can eat Pasta? I thought that wasn't allowed. I am so confused on what to eat. Like I eat protien only....I never have room for anything else. Like dinner tonight I took 2 slices of lean turkey from the deli, mixed it with some plain greek yogurt, sprinkled some garlic powder, dried onions and some shredded cheese. It was decent...but that was it....a 1/3 of a cup pretty much. Breakfast was one scrambled egg and lunch was greek yogurt with protien powder mixed in....am I eating right? So confusing!!

Thanks for the reply Amy. I'm on several meds still. They think the bleeds started at my RNY surgery on 12/10/13, then were exacerbated by my Plavix. Ill be of Plavix from now on. I hope no one else has complications.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
