Mmmm had poutine. It's like a heavenly little heart attack on a plate, fries, cheese and gravy. Soo bad for u but soooo good at same time. My daughter offered to blend some up and the thought of puréed poutine had killed that craving lol

I took the week before my diet wrote down a few things I may never be able to have again...and made a menu of what I would have the last week. I really only picked the ones I would really really miss. I still wish I would have added Subway to that list....but oh well. I am happy as can be with the choice I have made. I know the below I can maybe have a bit of eventually in.........but will I really want to risk that path again??

Tempera Shrimp Roll

pizza

Shrimp Alfredo ( Dad's recipe)

Beef Stroganoff ( Dad's recipe)

Bacon cheese Burger

12 oz Prime Rib with sauteed mushrooms

Blizzard

candy Bar

coffee coffee COFFEE

My surgery is scheduled for 1/13/14 and I start my preop diet on 12/30/13 and lately I've been putting down so much food. I feel like such a loser, but in a way I feel like it's my last hooray. I know it won't make the mental journey any better, but I am reading Emotional First Aid Kit. I don't know I'm probably just making excuses, which is why I'm over weight and need the surgery in the 1st place.

You know I chowed down prior to my preop diet! My brain really thought I'd NEVER be able to eat again. I look back and think how silly that thought was, but at the time it was REAL. You are not alone :-)

I knoooowww lol. It's the only reason I replied. You've been so supportive of me and I didn't want you to think that you were alone with your pre-op food funerals.

I did too.. weekend before pre-op diet began, I had my favorites. That was the last time I've had any of it.. I do sometimes feel I still crave some, but I tell myself it's head hunger and go for some Water to delay that feeling..

Even though I'd read prior to my pre opt diet that food funerals are a bad idea, i had several small ones last week. First We husband and i ate out every night for dinner at all my favorite places. I took Chipotle, Applebees, pizza Hut and other leftovers from dinner to lunch everyday.

On thursday mom and i went to olive garden after i got off work. She said a salad and Soup and i had 2 bowls of Soup, linguine alfredo and 2 sprites.

On friday i ate hot wings and macaroni around 3 then at 7, i got together with friends and we made pork spring rolls and the three of us shared a large, chocolate, peppermint pie. (Surprisingly they ate as much, if not more than me for dinner but both of them are thinner than me. One if them has even had 3 children and she's barely a size 6! Not fair!)

Did a tour of my favourite restaurants in the two weeks prior to the pre-op diet. Had a lot of nice meals that I really enjoyed.

Day before diet started, I went and bought food I thought I would miss - rice, beef, chocolate, Snacks - but strangely enough, I didn't eat any of it. Was so focussed on the forthcoming diet and so ready to make changes, I just wanted to get on with it... bit boring but I was so done with food by then, there was nothing left to eat that gave me a thrill!

I didn't intentionally misbehave and say goodbye to things. My attitude was, "ive eaten these things way too many times to count. Whats one more gonna do for me?"

But I did slip up once and went way over my calorie limit in the two week pre-op diet. I also did some 'tasting' - chewing but not swallowing. It really helped me with those momentary urges when I'd smell something my wife made in the kitchen. The hands already on it, its in my mouth, NOW WHAT. Chew chew, spit it in the trash can. No harm no foul.

I did a food funeral too. It was bad but Good!

Now, after 10 months out I see I m not deprived on food. I can eat any thing I want but choose not. One thing I didn't go all out because I was afraid of being an open Lap. Long scar during my surgery.

Good luck!

I am 1 yr out and before my pre op diet I ate at every restaurant I enjoyed and ate what I wanted. My surgeon wanted me to lose at least 4 lbs before surgery, silly huh. I did do that. BUT during my 2 week pre op diet I did not cheat once. I am almost 100 lbs down and still have great restriction. I eat everything but not a lot.

I'm really struggling with the last meals and food funerals right now. I've gained several pounds in the last few weeks and this needs to stop b/c it's only going to be more weight that I have to lose after the surgery. I keep telling myself that it won't be the last time I can ever have these foods again but still have the desire to binge. Hopefully I will get this all out of my system before my preop diet starts as I have no intention of cheating and want to make things as easy for my surgeon as possible.

So glad to hear that I'm not alone in this :(

I went to all my favorite places and ate whatever I wanted. But then again, that's sort of what I did for years and why I was headed for surgery in the first place. If you want to, I say go for it.

Will it be satisfying? I doubt it.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
