So I had my surger on September 24th and then had to have it revised on november 12th because my port flipped. Well ive been fine and losing weight but im starting to feel some pain right below my left breast. Its not major pain but it hurts if I lay on that side or bend over. I see my doctor in the morning but im paranoid and wont sleep thinking about it. Has anyone experienced this? I read that it could be a sign on slippage but I have no other symptoms at all. Anyways any insight would help! Thanks!

HI!

Im glad you're seeing your doctor tomorrow so you can get a more accurate answer soon.

When I had the band, I often had gas that seemed to be stuck difference places. Right under my left rib was a favorite place for it to hang out.

I've also heard of referred pain, and with your having had surgery it could just be some leftover sensations as your body continues to heal.

I really don't know, just voicing a couple of things it could be.

I once called my surgeon because I had some symptoms that I'd read online could be a sign of slippage...and he told me right away that that was not what was happening. I don't know how he knew that, but my point is just because you've heard a symptom could be a sign of slippage, doesn't mean it's a sign that your band has slipped! (and I was freaked out, believe me!)

From what I've read, I would think you might be have problems with eating and drinking if there was a slip----but please know that I do NOT know very much at all about this kind of thing.

It's good that you're seeing your doctor in person tomorrow and can describe and point to the exact spot you are having pain.

Just get a good night's sleep; there is nothing to do about it right now from what you've described.

You're welcome!

It could just be your port healing again. Is your port on your left side? Could be a nerve inflamed.

I can understand you worrying. I've often found myself wishing I had a medical background so I could understand more of how my body is working and what symptoms could mean.

sleep well :) This, too, whatever it is, shall pass. And soon you'll be enjoying the holidays!!

No advice, just a ((((hug)))). Glad that you are seeing your surgeon, too. it doesn't sound like a slip! I have had 2, and believe me, it usually manifests itself differently than that! Best wishes, I hope that you got some sleep! Karen...aka..kll724

Hope it all goes well today and you are relieved of any worries -- referred pain can be hard to figure out sometimes. Best wishes!

I'm not sure if this referred pain and it has nothing to do with my band but my right lower cheek if you get my drift has alot of pain when I walk. It sometimes makes my knee click like it's not bending straight. Think it's my back or my hip? If either who would I see? A bone doctor or chiropractor or back doctor? .Rheumatologist maybe?

I don't see my primary until feb 22 and my hip or whatever is staying longer and happening more frequent. Maybe I just need an MRI to see what might be wrong. Possibility. Whatcha think?

I too have days where I seem to have more pain under my left rib (My port is healthy and lives below my ribs). I found that pain to be gas related typically but I do believe that occasionally my tubing makes its way up that direction and irritates me. There are days I can not lay on that side. My doctor said its all normal and I have had it checked out via test and such. Its all good. Good luck!! Let us know what happens at your doctors apt.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
