March 2013 Sleevers: It's been 9 months...how you doing?

Recommended Posts

For every meal and snack I think about its Protein content first. If it does not have Protein then I don't choose it.

Empty carbs are Pasta, bread, white flour things. Empty carbs have no or very little protein. I am not carb free but I think twice before having carbs. See my food chart yesterday. I went over calories and did have pizza. But also a lot of protein. On Fridays I have a slice of pizza!

Typical meals for me are Greek yogurt ( Dannon light has less sugar), chili, some turkey or cheese for a snack, dinner is whatever we make but I don't eat many of the carbs and eat the protein first (turkey dinner I eat the turkey and only spoonful of potatoes; Pasta dinner I eat the meat sauce and only spoonful of pasta, etc)

Get 65g protein a day minimum

Don't drink and eat at same time

Don't drink your calories (unless protein shake meal replacement)

Keep sugar grams low (< 25-30g)

Those are the rules I follow.

Note I don't have rule for total carbs

I also have a 1300 target calories. Yours may be different. I am 5-10 so can get away with more.

Up till now my exercise consisted of walking 2-3 days a week. Now I started now to the gym. But for health not for weight loss.

I am on a zone line diet. About 40% carbs, 30% protein and fat each. Sometimes one is more than the other. Keep your sugar grams under 25g a day and you can't help but lose weight. I do not do that all the time and then I pay for it. But it's my goal.

But that is what I do. I am not perfect but I track the good and bad choices. Every bite. So I am accountable. If I can do it so can you!

You have it in you to be successful and the sleeve is your friend in accomplishing it!

this was so helpful thank youbso much im going to try it and see how it goes.. how much chesse do u eat?

I will eat an ounce of sharp cheddar cheese or 1-2 Sargento cheese sticks for a snack or part of a meal. About 100 cals and very filling.

For me fruit is not a good idea. Too much sugar in it. I will eat a banana every other week. Perhaps Apple slices with Peanut Butter 1 time a month. Strawberries perhaps every on e in a while. When I eat sugar I just crave more and this is true for fruit for me as well. If you eat fruit make sure to have Protein like cheese or Peanut Butter, etc at the same time so that it counters the sugar and you feel full.

Wow you are all doing great and now its almost a year. I am down to 201 now. That's a loss of over 100 since a year ago. I think 108 since pre op and 114 overall. Have to do math! I very briefly got into Onederland but it was a blip. I hope it was because I started working out with a personal trainer and my body is now getting used to using muscles and eventually the weight will come off again. I think I have lost more inches. It seems that Onederland is like impossible for me. It's taking so long. Thankfully I am 5-10 so most people would never guess I weigh so much still. Happy to report I can fit is size 14 in any case. Surely Onederland cannot be far behind? Please?

Can yall Believe Its Been A Year

Today is exactly 1 year for me. All I can say is what a difference a year makes!. I am down over 80 pounds and about 8 pounds from goal weight. Today went for a jog and did 3.7 miles in 39 minutes. I would never have been able to do that a year ago. I still track all my food in my fitness pal. It of course much harder to get the last few pounds off and I do struggle with keeping my daily calories down. My doctor says 800 calories a day to loose weight. Well I find it nearly impossible to stay that low and am more in the 1000 calories range but I am exercising on almost a daily basis so I think that helps. I still do not eat and drink together, get in my Protein and avoid bad carbs. I do well most of the time. This is still one of the best decisions I ever made. My life has improved dramatically. Would love to hear from other March 2013 people.

Today marks my year... I'm truly blessed I have lost 108 pounds so far... I never thought I could be doing things I couldn't do before. .. I have loss friends and gained new ones.. I still haven't told most people that I had it... but they see how hard I have worked to lose all my weight... it's not been easy to have a weigh loss surgery

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
