Holy moly that is a long list!

I think I'm ready. The hospital told me no to my own pjs and robe. I have toothbrush and paste, dry Shampoo, face wipes, Chapstick, brush, own pillow, undies, glasses w/case and lens cleaner and b/c Mother Nature is a b..., girlie products.

My friends and family still kinda suck as support. I'm allowed to eat today, liquids Sunday. I think I'm going to go to Chilis and have my favorite soup/salad.

God bless and good luck to all of us who are scheduled for surgery and God bless, fast recovery to those who've already had it!

You too.

Lol...the list is long and I forgot to add some things, but we are going out of town so we will be staying in hotel for two nights after two nights in the hospital.

Xx

Jlmckee great list too. I was wondering if they would let me bring my own PJ's? I have a ton of paperwork and info from my hospital and docs but curiously enough nothing about what to bring to the hospital.

Like I said to Jlmckee my list is long because of a hotel stay for 2 extra nights....lol

But PJ's seem like a good idea when you start walking around.

All the best.

Honestly you will not want to change into pj's. You will want to stay in the gown. I promised that I would put on my undies but I didnt feel like it. I only used my robe and chapstick.

That's great advice! Thank you so much.

Gas X thin strip, Gas X thin strip, Gas X thin strip, Gas X thin strip, Gas X thin strip.............. Someone told me they don't work but I disagree. I took one every time I ate or drank for the first couple of days. Pretty much all my surgical gas was gone by day 5 and I never had too much pain with it. I've had several abdominal surgeries and it has made a big difference in the recovery process to me.

Thank you for sharing that. What is a good thing to wear to hospital?

I packed pjs, robe, extension cord for phone, socks, dainties, deodorant, toothbrush and toothpaste...but honestly, the hospital provided everything and I didnt even get my bag out of the trunk. Everything I needed was in my purse [chapstick, phone charger & phone ]. I wore the clothes I wore to the hospital home. Those two days fly by, but had I stayed longer, I would have needed my bag. Blessings to you all! I am 12 days post op and doing great. It still feels like a miracle, really!

Hi everyone. I wanted to check in, last week at this time I was soooo excited, and I know a lot of you are getting ready for this weeks surgery. I want to wish you the very best and the speediest of recoveries! Don't stress about what you pack, they will have what you need.....except Chapstick:-) you will be in my prayers. This week after surgery has gone slow for me, but I have not thrown up. I'm taking it slow. I'm sure I'll get better with time, as will you:-)

Xo,

Karen

Meintraining, I wore old navy sleep pants that have a drawstring so that they could be loose on the way home and a long mens tshirt...comfortable is key. I expected to need everything and preparing added to my anxiety. But once the surgery was over, nothing in my packed bag mattered. I kept my purse, which is tote size, beside the bed on my rolling tray. My charger cord was just long enough but barely. The hospital provided anti slip socks, toothbrush, toothpaste, Shampoo, conditioner, lotion, tv, remote, extra pillows, and even found me a fan. The morphine made me hot so that fan was awesome sauce! lol. You're gonna do great!

I'm doing great fergie. I get to start full liquids today, so I'm hoping some Protein speeds things along. Still in pain at times. I'm still sleeping in the recliner. I'm trying to branch out, but Water is still my fav. I go on Tuesday to get this drain out, I'm hoping that will be a turning point also. How have you been doing?

I have been doing awesome. sleeping in my bed is heaven. I am still on Clear Liquids until I go to my 1 week appointment Thursday. I have been taking short walks and they get longer everyday. I am almost off of my pain meds and my incisions look great. No bruising but they are tender. My mother in law li jealous that I am recovering faster than what she did.

Finally came home yesterday!! It's so good to see my family! I have lost 8.5lbs since surgery!! I am struggling with getting my Protein in :(. Right now the thought of it makes me sick. I have several different brands and flavours to choose from. Still I can not swallow it, my little boys will come and finish it for me. Trust me I am only too happy letting them finish it! I have tried mixing it with Water and ice, milk and yogurt. I am going to try missing it with apple sauce wish me luck!

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
