Any February 2014 Sleevers?

Recommended Posts

So, I started the gym today. I get a free year at the heart center at our hospital, so I'm finally taking advantage of it. So far today, with the speed walking I did around school after working out, then shopping/walking all day with my bff, I've got a net calorie of -22. Ha! I don't know that I've ever burned 6-700 calories a day!

Hey guys! I just signed up to be trained by a personal trainer 2 days a week! I'm so excited! He's worked with several bariatric patients and will personalize the workouts to my fitness level! I am curious about all of your nutrient recommendations from your surgeons. I've not been given a set calorie limit. Only 2oz servings and 70g Protein a day. What are your surgeons recommending?

Yay!

I also have no calorie limit. Basically I was told to only focus on getting the 60 protein for for the day. Which if eating high protein foods at meal times, is going tomes keep those calories, fat, and carbs lower. Although if we're going to be working out, we need some carbs. :) like today I've only really had 2 meals cause I haven't been hungry, but my protein is at 53 grams. I hate 2 lunch meat roll ups for Breakfast pre workout, and then tried the kids steak at applebees for a late lunch. Haven't been hungry yet again tonight. But I'll eat something before bed.

Help....9 weeks postop and pain under rib cage.

Sarah, if it isn't at that deepest incision site, and it doesn't sound like it is, I'd call my surgeon's office. It could be gas or a million other things but it's always best to make that call and get checked out.

Thinking about sneaking a small glass of wine in tonight on date night. I was given the okay and I'm not really a habitual drinker. I'm a little reluctant to ask if anyone has had a little alcohol since surgery just because every forum I've read with the same topic is filled with indignation and it's really annoying to read. This has been been a great group so far so I just wanted to run by you guys what you thought? I figured I'd have a few sips to Celebrate tonight ..thoughts?

I was told by my dr no alcohol for a year, but I actually gave up alcohol all together. Last drink was July 23, 2013 lol I started trying to lose weight last year and it knew alcohol was just a waste of calories. Just my choice :)

How much was the fitbit? You'll have to let me know how you like it. I've been thinking about getting one or something like it for a little while know. I just use my phone for now, but if it's in my purse or not on me it obviously doesn't track. It's a Samsing app, and pretty great, but I'd love something more accurate.

I love mine! It's a constant reminder for me to get in some exercise, even if it's just a walk around a few blocks. I aim for 10,000 steps a day, but some days I don't get that in which case my goal is also to get no less than 5000 steps a day.

Mine won't either so I'm adding you to my contacts as "Darianna BP" and just putting your email in the contact info. Lol.

That is weird! Is it a phone or ipad? My ipad app does so much more than my phone app.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
