Enough Already With The Compliments And Questions

Recommended Posts

The good news s that eventually it settles down. After more than a year and a half at goal, people rarely comment. I still get an occasional comment or zinger but for the mist part, people have moved on.

I find this to be true for me also. It was definitely more noticeable during the "losing" phase and people weren't used to seeing me as a smaller person. Then when things sort of leveled out at about 18 months, the compliments tend to fade away.

I get one occasionally now from someone who hasn't seen me in a long time. Thankfully, I don't have to jump into a long diatribe about where I was, what I did to get where I am, and everything in between, because I just say thank you and move on. Mostly, people will say "wow, you look great" which could be my hair, my outfit, or my sparkling personality :P ...but usually the thinly veiled compliment IS in regards to my WEIGHT. I do suppose that it's possible that someone is complimenting me without being able to actually put their finger on WHY I look great, etc. but I think mostly they know I've lost weight, I know I've lost weight, and unless I choose to wander down the path and get into the specifics, it basically becomes a non-issue.

There are times people complement me and sometime I wonder if it's sincere. I totally feel this post.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
