Hi Everyone-

I am patiently awaiting my pre-approval into Mt. Carmel's program. I dropped off my paperwork 2 weks ago today. I was at the February 5th seminar and wasted no time in getting the paperwork into the office. I have Aetna Choice POS II (Open Access) insurance, so anyone with pointers please let me know. I have all my records from my various doctors that I visit on a regular basis and my endocronologist has a documented diet for a year. I have also started the three month diet with a dietician and my pcp as a just in case.

My mom has been approved for her banding with Dr. Curry on April 15th.

How long did it take everyone else to hear if you were accepted?

Thanks-

Welcome NDWife-- I have the same exact health plan and I can tell you that Aetna denied my initial submission from Charlene and the doctors due to not having my 5 year weight history --as soon as she sent that in, plus my sleep clearance report, cardio clearance, psych clearance and proof of diet - I had two appointments with dieticians plus about 9 months of WW program log book, then I got approved on Feb 18th. I got my surgery date on Feb 22 and it will be March 17th. Hope you can join us at Polaris Mall for the lapband group fun get together. See the thread for it under Ohio.

;) Kathy

Thanks to everyone for the warm welcomes. I received the big envelope today in the mail. I was very excited. I have the diet documentation through my doctor, no food logs due to a house fire in December and all of that stuff was thrown away due to smoke damage. Hopefully the conversations that the doctor has documented from the last year will do. I am seeing a dietician right now and he is helping me prepare for life after surgery. I also have a great recomendation letter from my pcp with a 5 year weight history attached. We will see, I may get lucky.

My mom and I are planning on coming up to Polaris on March 8th. I can't wait to see some before and after pictures. I am sure that I will be ready to write a book after this.

Special Kay- one more thing, were you able to pay your co-pay for the consultation and such? I know there is the program fee and nutritionist fee for them, but I do have to do a pulmonary evaluation and psych eval and was hoping that they take co-pays. Also, were did you do you eval?

Thanks-

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
