On The Verge Of Mental Collapse

--- I understand the science behind it, I was a bio major once upon a time.

Spare a thought or two for the psychology behind it. You are placing too much emphasis on the scale. It only tells part of the story, and your doctor's office knows that. Just eat/drink/exercise as you've been advised to do, and stop focusing on the scale. Focus on the things that you can actually control.

Once again, I wouldn't normally be obsessed about the scale. When I diet and exercise regularly, it's less about my weight, I just focus on how much better I feel. But I have to lose weight. 6 days. The I fly to Mexico where I put a large amount of money on the line. Where if I didn't lose the weight they asked as the only hint they're taking into consideration for if I can have the surgery, I'm s*** outta luck and there goes my money on flights! Plus the money I miss out on from taking time off work.

I'm trying to be more positive and hopefully the efforts will show by next week, but if they don't, I might be burning down buildings. That is all.

Don't worry about it Mouse.

My wife didn't hit her 'suggested' weight loss and neither did many of the others that we friended at the clinic that day.

They won't turn you away.

In fact, one girl in our group, freaked out out the day before (hotel and travel mixups) and had a bacon cheesburger at the TJ Mariott the night before and they still let her have the surgery.

Do the best you can. It will make the procedure as well as the healing process go easier, but don't worry about them sending you home because you mised your mark.

Remember, bottom line is YOU'RE the customer and you've got the MONEY they want.

Does that help?

*hugs you* that is a relief. I don't condone enabling cheating, and I'm still going to follow my preop but it's nice to know that I don't need to freak out the next couple of days on top of everything else.

I've had a lobotomy, which is why my BMI is so low. I wouldn't recommend it. :tongue2:

This post is exactly why I do not own a scale, and I will not purchase one. I will go to my bariatric center once a week to weigh myself, otherwise I will drive myself insane. If weighing myself at the center makes me crazy, at least I'll have some professionals there to refocus me!

Mouse!! Update us!

Ugh, still five away from goal, sitting around 250 and I don't think I'm losing the other five in the next two days sadly...

Hopefully that won't have any negative impact on my surgery but I'm trying to think positively.

Just stuck with the plan they've given you and I'm sure that by Monday, when you arrive to weigh in, it will have come off!! I'm sure of it!! Just to be safe, cut out sodium if your getting any.

So get this.

I actually GAINED a pound this morning.

WTF?

Is that even possible?

I've been religious about the diet and haven't cheated once. I've been steadily loosing between 1-1.5 pounds a day and now this.

I'm not freaking out because I've met my weight goal the nutritionist wanted me to be at, but I'm just confused on how this is even possible.

Read back on page 1 of PDXmans first post. It's perfectly normal. You're restoring your glycogen reserves which means retaining Water. Get used to it because after surgery this will be the name of your existence of you worry about every little up and down fluctuation. Weighing less often actually gives more accurate results.

Hang in there and don't stress. I know it's so hard, but we've all been there.

Had my surgery on the 6th, wasn't too difficult except the pain after. I had severe chest pain (gas and where they went in to move around the liver and diaphragm) and on the right side (said was where they pulled out the stomach excess).

It's a lot better today, 3 days post op. But if I turn the wrong way, it puts me almost to my knees. The only chest pain I'm having now is still a few spasms and soreness.

But I'm getting more fluids each day.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
