I have an antibiotic for the infected incision and the surgeon was not gentle when he was digging around and cleaning it out. I almost cried or screamed or kicked him in the head. He wants to see me again Monday. I told him he had better send me flowers!

I have a question...I haven't had this really until now...but the last few days I have no appetite at all...did y'all go through that? I'll be 12 weeks out tomorrow...I mean, I'll eat some just cuz I know I should, but it's not as though I am hungry at all. We had our Thanksgiving at work today and I ate cuz everyone was, but I didn't want it at all. Just curious

I had that happen last week. I was literally forgetting to eat until late afternoon. I would try eating and I would only be able to get a few bites in at a time. I think I had 3 days where I fought to get 300 calories for the day. I just plain wasn't hungry at all. This week though, Im hungrier than I ever have been, and yesterday noticed I can definitely eat more than before...I know Im still going to be able to eat more, but it still scares the crap outta me. Maybe because I hit a stall as well at the same time? (This will be my 3rd. stall so Im hoping it won't be as frustrating this time ::rolls eyes::)

What is firefly? Only the best tv series ever that Fox fucked up. It's about these space travelers who are very much human and travel through various planets making deliveries, running errands and getting paid. The character development is nice, there's a mystery running through the episodes, and of course, a punitive republic against whom they must protest. It is witty, clever and IMHO, Joss Wheedon's best work to date. I think Amazon has it for you to stream? it was followed by a movie, Serenity, also very good.

Allegiant et al are another set of teenagers in a dystopian world where people are sorted into five groups, Abnegation, erudite, dauntless, amity, and candor based on their personalities, and are trained that way. Or are they? :) despite the inevitable comparison to hunger games, we thought the books stood well in their own stead.

Laura, your kids might like them, and since the last one was just released they could read all three in a row.

We <3 Firefly, Serenity and Hunger Games at our house as well!! I think I will be checking out Allegiant soon :)

I know exactly what you mean!!! I can eat about 1/3 cup of beef and veggie Soup now with crackers - where I used to could only do 1/4 cup it scares me soooo bad...I don't want to gain anything back or ever get back to what I was!!!

Morning all, I just love this thread because it's like the chat room only better...because when I'm offline, I can always just sit and drink my coffee and catch up.

So instead of etc. we can call this the permanent chat thread? :P

And there is waaaaay to much for me to comment on so I will stick with this: Definitely going to see the Hunger Games movie...thought they did a good job following the book for the first one, so excited to see how they handle the second one. My almost 13 yo is reading the Divergent series right now and talks about it incessantly, not sure I'm up to reading it also. She will probably start the 3rd book today. Seems similar to the Hunger Games and I did look it up on Wikipedia and had a hard time even reading all the stuff they there (ie. it didn't hold my interest) so I might have to skip this one. She is very much into the young adult stuff and for some of you who also are, there is also the Maze Runner (I think it's also a series of books, can't remember how many) but I don't think I saw that mentioned here but she was into that last year.

All I can think of is why did it have to be the week of Thanksgiving? Why couldn't I be forgetting to eat on the week Im cooking crazy amounts of food for days! Oh well..I think next year Im letting someone else cook for 15 people. It's dangerous for my mind to think about and then prepare that amount of food :/

I hear ya, but the cooking doesn't bother me too much...thankfully. I am still in that not wanting to eat mode, I kinda hope it continues through tomorrow :-P

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
