    Always feeling cold

Almost 5 years out and I still feel cold. Was just at my beauty therapist & had a blanket wrapped around me while I had a pedicure. Bbrrr! Simply it’s because you’re losing your insulation. Plus your body doesn’t run as hot as it did when functioning at your higher weight. Some people acclimatise eventually others, like me, don’t. I keep a coat in my car for emergencies & try to dress according to where I’m going or what I’m doing.

Bad pain any time I eat

So you’re in your third week which generally is purée. Can you give us an idea of what you’ve been eating. Yes, some take longer to heal & therefore need to move through the stages more slowly so move back a stage for a few days. Like the purée you’ve eaten is still too thick for you yet. Try thinning them with water, stock, milk, etc. Some allowed foods can still be too heavy for our tummy yet & you may experience discomfort though I wouldn’t say pain as you’ve described. And yes, eating too quickly can cause again discomfort. You can even have the foamies if something is too heavy, coarse or you eat to quickly but you’ve haven’t experienced that. I’d still check with your surgeon or go to a hospital because you really shouldn’t be experiencing pain as strong as you’ve indicated.

    1 Year Post-Op Update & Starting A GLP-1

Thanks! ☺️ So I mentioned the possibility at my post op appt and my provider felt like I should peruse Wellbutrin or Contrave first and save the GLP-1 for later if needed, but if I lost a bit more on my own I wouldn't qualify. I don't tend to jump towards meds, but the thought of having to regain a chunk of weight to qualify was depressing. I had an appointment this week with my PCM and she didn't give me too much push back, just said to watch my B12 levels, since the compounded formula includes it.
  6. My surgery date was 04/04/2024. The pain started last night. Everytime I try to eat or drink, I have really sharp pain in the left side of my stomach. The pain shoots through my chest and shoulder. The only way I get relief is if I lay specifically on my left side. My right side and my back has bad pain also. Today, I hardly have drank anything due to this pain. My nutritionist told me to go back onto clear liquid just for today to see how it goes. He believes I consumed too fast and there may be a blockage. He also told me I started eating cottage cheese too soon and it could be that as well. He predicted it would be better by end of day. It has not and my nutritionist isn't answering me to my concerns. All day today, I've barely been able to finish a protein shake and a tiny bit of water and about a cup of chicken broth. I'm still in a lot of pain, worse each time I try to drink something. I do burp here and there randomly. No fever, no chills, no infection on incisions. Did anyone else experience this? Does it go away quickly? How can I eat something without it hurting? I guess I'm looking for reassurance that this is normal? Thank you

    1 Year Post-Op Update & Starting A GLP-1

Wow, amazing progress! Please don't let yourself get down about missing your goal by 4 pounds. You've done so well! I honestly think you look really healthy in your photo, but I understand wanting to quiet the food noise and maybe give yourself more time to get into healthy habits. Curious if you told your doctor you would be trying the GLP-1 program, and what their thoughts were about it? I'm keeping the possibility in the back of my mind for the future if it becomes necessary, and know I would be nervous to bring it up with the doctor since it's through a compounding pharmacy.

    Always feeling cold

I am wearing socks at home. I never used to wear socks to sleep but it’s a must now. I can’t seem to keep warm.

    Always feeling cold

Doctor says it’s in normal range. I’m taking iron + b12 supps and it hasn’t helped.
  10. Hi everyone, I read here often, but don't post much. I've been inspired and encouraged by others' posts! In March I celebrated one year since my gastric bypass. I lost approximately 75lbs, which was 75% of my excess body weight. I am 39F, 5'4, started at 233, and weighed 157 at my check up. I haven't weighed this since high school, and only weighed that in high school due to Weight Watchers. I am so thankful for this opportunity, and I feel good overall, but have really, really been struggling with snacking and some negative eating patterns, plus feeling like a failure for not meeting my year goal of 153. I had a little brain and body rest over the past month, and now feel ready to give this next stage all I can before some upcoming big life changes. I decided to try the GLP-1 program through BariatricPal. I did my first injection on Wednesday. I hope to lose down into the 130s, (which honestly sounds crazy and scary to even hope for) by October. Anyhow, I thought I'd try to come back and update on my progress in case anyone else is considering the meds after their surgery. Attached is a photo of a pair of jeans I really wanted to fit into, shown before surgery and the day I decided to donate them because they were too big 😁

    VItamins & Nausea

Make sure when you take your vitamins that you are not taking them WITH food but rather AFTER food. I used to take them with the sip of my protein shake in the morning. If I took it before I got all the shake in my stomach it would come right back up. I also used the procare health one a day. They are reasonable and you can set up auto shop so you don’t really have to think much about it. I got mine one bottle ahead so when I opened a new bottle I just made sure I had received the next one already and I always had.

I'd read the posts on "non-scale victories" lots of motivation there! I also taped one of the very few pictures of myself to the mirror. Seeing the difference and why I was doing it helped.

    Anyone freeze muffins?

Of course. I hope you like them too. They also have single options you can pop into the microwave. They are kinda expensive for one serving so I’ve not tried them yet but they had quite a few options available.

Are you able to fit into a smaller size, maybe. Shopping for. Smaller size and knowing that it’s just a matter of time before you get to shop for more really soon may help (even if it’s a thrift store since they won’t fit for long). Also There is a post about non scale victories that will give you a lot to look forward to. But biggest thing if you haven’t thought agout it already is to think about why you are doing the surgery to start with. A non scale goal of sorts.

    Navigating Eating Out

Absolutely this. Knowledge is power. Scan the menu, make your best selection and then only eat what you want or need to when it arrives.

    ESG January 2024 Buddies??

Congrats on the weight loss and lower cholesterol in your first month! I am three months out and I’ve always struggled with hitting the recommended calories… I’ve hit almost two weeks now where I haven’t lost anything, but the dietitian told me that’s completely normal. Trying not to let it get to me! Curious if anyone a little further out has experienced this yet? I am down 56lbs after three months and started around your SW weight as well. Are you currently doing a blended/pureed diet? When I hit that phase, I think I was still consuming two protein drinks a day (I like Fairlife Nutrition Plan or Premier Protein) which gave me 60g protein total (30 each) and 300 cals total (150 or 160 each). I would try to have three meals a day. For meals, I would make a yogurt smoothie with a little bit of fruit, milk or water. The pre-made Chobani Zero Smoothies are also good if you need something quick. I would have half of one for a meal. Fat free refried beans were good at that phase. I also made a lot of cooked, mashed carrots and sweet potatoes. Ricotta or cottage cheese blended with fruit or lemon juice, tomato sauce, etc.

    So much soup

Oh yes, must be even more tricky for people cooking for one. We all hate waste. Freezers are our friends.

5 years out not losing weight

Just adding my voice to the general advice to eat 3-4oz of protein per meal (chicken breast seems best for you?) Then a couple of oz of green veg. Berries for snacks if you really need those. Ditch everything else from that plate? I totally agree there's nothing awful on it but if you are fighting a new set weight (WLS can do a number on that) you might need to redraw the lines of battle. Strictly protein and green veg till you're losing consistently?

    Always feeling cold

Still a huge thing for me 2.5 years on. I feel cold almost all the time. I wear 2 layers outdoors in summer (Ireland though - it's not ever properly warm here), 4 layers indoors and probably 6 outdoors in winter.

yes - it's super common. For some it's temporary, for others, it's permanent.

    Advice Needed: Reflux After Sleeve

revisions do work the vast majority of the time. But not all the time - we see people on here once in a while who had one, but it didn't work for them. But most of the time, yes, it works.
  27. Oh this is what I dreaded when choosing between sleeve and bypass OP. I had reflux for years but it always resolved when I lost significant amounts of weight. And returned when I regained. I gambled on my reflux being pressure related, had the sleeve, and I won the gamble. Other than spicy foods or too great a volume of food I don't experience reflux now. I totally accept (and did at the time) that it could have gone the other way. I haven't heard of the procedure you describe as fixing reflux or a hiatus hernia. Maybe the more experienced members here will have? I suspect that you're heading towards a revision. Your symptoms sound awful and very persistent, and you seem to have been prescribed everything to control them. Bad bad luck.

    Anyone freeze muffins?

It’s Dunkin Hines keto friendly. Made with almond and coconut flour. I don’t have the package for the muffins but I have the brownies here to try. They are two grams of net carbs, 0 added sugars and 3 grams protein. It’s kinda high in fat like most keto at 10 grams but has suggestions for ingredient swaps which would reduce that some (I made it the normal way).
