I have seen paople on here who have gotten fills at 1 week, and some that have to wait 12 weeks. OMG. :omg:I'd have to rent a baby elephant to sit on my belly, so I wouldn't be gorging, if I had to wait 12 weeks.

Thanks!

Hello all,

I just had my first fill of 2mm last Thursday 26th April. I was told by my Australian doctor that he likes to wait until the 5th week post banding to ensure that we are handling normal food. I'm to go back every month for now and he will decide if I need more or not. Everyone's different I guess.

I actually have no idea what is normal for my surgeon. My six week post op check got canceled because the day before he removed my gall bladder. I think I am one of those few bandsters who goes from solids back to Clear Liquids for reasons other than the band. And since I still have swelling from my abdominal incisions I actually have more restriction that I would really like. I'm having trouble getting food in. So lately I have been cheating, eating softer stuff, junk food, overstuffing, drinking while eating. I'm still not eating very much. I don't want the weight to start dropping off again like it was before. I know I can only get my gall bladder taken out once, but that experience has made me wary of rapid weight loss I suppose.

I'll be just past six weeks when I go for my first fill next Monday. I'm still losing a bit, but not as quickly as I initially was.

Hi everyone, I posted this here due to the fact I had no replies on the other forum and need your input. What do you think?

The last few days everytime I eat my back hurts. This AM for example, I took a small bite of sausage, (which I've eatin several times before) chewed well and by the time I took a second bite my back hurt, like right at my spine in the middle of my shoulders. I felt like I was going to puke but didn't . I figured it was stuck so I took some papaya enzyme. I've not had my first fill yet. I've heard that stress can make you more restricted, but even when your not filled yet? My life has been very stressful the last week or so. I'm even stressing more on this because now I wonder if this is what people mean when they have a band slip? I always thought that if it was a slip, you would have chest pain, am I a odd one? I decided to stay on liquid for a few days but even Water is uncomfortable to swallow, I have to take little sips like in the beginning. Has anyone had this happen, I'd like to hear from you.

I havent read to much about what it is like to have your band slip. Did you call your Dr.? have u had a fill? It only hurts when u eat? Maybe you are just restricted. Sorry I cant help w/ this more. Let me know how u are doing.

BJ,

I think my first fill is working a little! I have lost 3 more pounds for a total of 20 pounds. YEAH!!! I didn't have this feeling at first but for the past several days, my esophagus feels a little tight. I can get food & fluids down, but I can't describe it any other way than tight. Its like something went down and feels a little stuck, but its not.

Weird! Well I am glad the scales are moving! SO don't you see the DOC today? Let me know what he says!

I'm really curious, after just reading jmcambra's post. How many weeks is everyone being told they have to wait until their first fill? I was told 8 weeks - but heard that whining and losing no weight will possibly get me a fill at 6 weeks. Thanks for the info! BJ :)

My doctor said 8 weeks. I was banded March 8th, I get my first fill May 7th.

When I got the date, I pooh pooed, and was told that the was date PERIOD.

So that's the date. Monday. The last two weeks have been challenging with out much weight loss but the last few days it's clicked in again.

OH Juli

Just wanted to update all you marchies. My banding is going better than I could have ever imagined!! I'm never hungry, I'm able to eat small amounts with no problems . . . no reflux, no vomitting, everything is fab. My weight loss started out slow but as of last week it just started falling off, fast! I'm doing so well, I think I'll put off my first fill until I hit my first plataue. Why fix it if it's not broken, right!?! I know it's not good to lose too fast, so I'm not taking any chances. I've already reached my May 18th b-day goal of making it out of the 200 #'s aThanks for all the support and wonderful information.

Congrats to Theresa_Ann! I'm happy for you, but admittedly a little jealous! I got my first fill on Friday. It was 1 cc. I was optimistic. But, alas, I feel no different than I did before the fill. I was hoping that it would suddenly "kick in", but nothing, yet. Babylovestoys, I am waiting to see if I'm gonna get that delayed effect like you! I have another appointment on June 1st. I don't want to have to wait one more month AGAIN to try for some restriction. I know it's better to err on the side of caution, but this is so frustrating! Yeah, I know - whine, whine, whine! BJ

BJ,

I think the 0.5cc more that I got made the difference. I think some of the first fill goes into the tubing, if it is not already primed.

Anyway, girl, you will get there!!!! A friend of mine, her Doc. does smaller but more frequent fills. He started with 1cc the first fill, & then every 2 weeks, he does a smaller fill until she reaches restriction. I didn't even get a folow-up appointment. They just told me to call when I needed a fill.

I use this board as my primary support system. I don't have a local aftercare group, since I was banded in Mexico. However, my Doc in Mexico has just started a BB on his website for his patients which I think is very COOL!:)

I got my second fill on Thursday and have much more restriction than I did with the first fill. A week after the first fill, it was like I never had a fill. This time I feel very tight. I have still been eating very mushie food, too scared to try dry food in case of PB...

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water. Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
