People eat your veggies!!! (and fruit)

What kind of nut tells you to cut out veggies???

Ok, I feel better :D

Mine did! She said that Protein was more important than vegetables ...

I'm starting to re-think that strategy ...

Protein is very important and I eat it first but veggies come right after.... I do not eat much fruit but I do eat 1/4 cup of frozen blueberries (20 calories) in my Greek yogurt daily (yummy favorite meal)

Plus veggies = roughage= poop= :D

Thanks guys. No, it's really rather hilarious to have such a weird thing! Or rather, it's hilarious because it was caught soon enough and all I have to do is really mainline as much Vitamin C as possible to build back up the reserves. lol

My NUT was anti-anything except Protein and freaked when I admitted I'd sneak strawberries and would drink orange juice.

Oh my goodness, Laura-Ven, roughage..such an awesome, awesome thing. ~snicker~

Luckily for me, they caught the whole Vitamin deficency early enough that I didn't lose any teeth (fingers crossed). What really spurred the testing was the bleeding gums, though. They just started bleeding and not when I was eating something I shouldn't or when I would brush my teeth and would wake up with blood all over my mouth like I'd been reinacting being a vampire bat or something. The paleness, lethargy and mood swings were chalked up to any number of other random stuff that makes up my day to day life. Really thought I was low on Iron, to be honest.

I think my gums may have receeded a tiny bit already but I'm not sure - it's not like I ever really paid all that much attention to how much gum I had before. They promised that all I have to do is get in over 1,000mg of Vitamin C for the next week or so and then drop it down to more regular levals and the bad stuff should reverse and go away. Fingers crossed that's true! Because otherwise I'm going to be forced to go full on pirate mode and see about getting a wooden leg and a surly parrot.

I hope you don't mind that I relayed your story to a friend who has another friend who got the RNY. I summarized it (no names, no links, no indication of what forum). She is supportive of me getting the sleeve but warned me that her other friend is having problems with hair loss and teeth literally falling out. I thought it might help the other girl who isn't all that health savvy and may not even realize that scurvy really is a thing.

That said, I LoL'ed all the way down this page! Arrrr, me hopes I don't get the scurrrrvy.

Have you thought about changing you NUT. She doesn't seem like a very responsible person. Mine have me running tests every 2 months for all sorts of Vitamins to catch a deficiency before it can cause any real damage. Hope you feel better real soon.

What? Not the Black Plague? Or cholera?

Cholera is good :P

I'd go with the Black Plague....I find it fascinating that modern scientists aren't certain what specific bacteria or virus was responsible. It would be really interesting to see what modern medicine would do, and even more interesting to see if it would quickly eliminate the Plague.

My husband wants you go know we have a boat for sale if that will help :P

Jokes aside, glad they found out and I appreciate the warning because I've been worried about no fruits and veg for us too. Time to add it back in.

Lemons have lots of Vitamin C. You could make your own lemonade and drink lots of it.

Arts137, am sure you meant no offence by what you thought was a throw away humorous comment.

But this isn't just an American site, it's global. And, for some of us, the Irish potato famine isn't something to joke about in this context when so many died. Just thought I would say....

I laughed all the way down this page. The people here are very funny. Poor you, but a big reminder to us all to eat our fruit and veges. Glad they caught it before you had to spend your treasure on dental work!

Oh yeah, fruits and veggies are important! I have to admit, I'm a pretty bad sleever when it comes to following my NUT in a lot of things. I noticed that I just felt better if I made my own diatary decisions and would lose faster than if I did her regieme of eating almost nothing but chicken thighs and greek yougurt for a special treat! But I'm a slow learner and so it took me a while to get over the guilt of "cheating" on my NUT. lol

I have to say, scurvy is surprisingly easy to get over! I can already tell a difference after drinking nothing but orange juice and Emergen-C. Still got a lot of ways to go before actually healed but at least I don't think I'm going to end up needing gum grafts or new teeth.

Just my own non-medically trained opinion here but I really do think we need to listen to our NUTs but also to our own common sense. Yes, most of us have bad dietary habits that helped lead us to where we are now but we haven't been able to live as long as we have without having at least a little common sense. I just wish I'd thought of that a bit sooner! But hey, at least I can now say I have the medical records to prove I was totally a pirate but am now currently living in hiding as an accountant. But that could be the same thing, right? :D

I don't know about all of you, but my first meeting with the NUT was pointless. I have read, researched, followed, researched, learned, internalized, researched, and read more on nutrition than most nutritionists. My problem is self-control. I know how to get all my Vitamins, I don't know how to stop wanting that extra slice of cheesy awesomeness that is pizza. We know when we're missing something vital. I think it's totally ok to "cheat" on the NUT when they tell us something along the lines of "no veggies...ever."

I don't drink milk because unprocessed milk (by that I mean plain ole milk that hasn't been turned into cheese or yogurt) does not have a nice effect on me. I lurve my veggies and know that there are a ton of them that have just as much Calcium as milk. When I told my NUT all of the above, she was still way concerned about my Calcium intake, because, you know, milk is the only place to get calcium...says the NUT.

All I am saying is, if your NUT's advice is giving you scurvy, feel free to take matters into your own hands.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
