Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield NJ Experiences?

Anyone have any experience with submitting to them, how long it takes to get a response, approval rate? From what I'm finding (and what the insurance coordinator for my surgeon says) they seem to be approving a lot of people very easily right now. All of my pre-op work is done, except the last consult with my surgeon before surgery and setting a date.

Let me know if you have any experience with them!

Crossing my fingers I get a (good) call today about it! I also keep checking my online services area under authorizations but nothing yet. I've lost almost 20 pounds on my pre-op diet' date=' which is just 10 under what they were hoping I would lose so I'm pretty much ready! I'd walk into the OR today if I could! haha[/quote']

No, nothing yet. :(

My surgeon's office didn't tell me when they submitted to insurance so I'm not sure exactly how long approval took. But I received a letter from BCBS in April indicating they needed more information. Checked with the surgeon's office and they kept increasing the records they wanted documenting my weight loss efforts. Sent in more information showing 13 months of Weight Watchers. They requested my exercise journals (WTH??!). Less than three days after that and before sending them anything my surgical coordinator called saying she received approval from the case manager over the phone. That was in April. My On Line Services shows that they are still waiting for additional information five months post surgery. NOT the most reliable for sure! Hang in there - hopefully you will hear something SOON!!
