october 7th and horrible pain

Recommended Posts

I had my sleeve done the 7th and I have a horrible time trying to drink my fluids. As soon as I swallow no matter How little it is I'm in pain. Then I'm also having a stabbing pain on my left side under my rib cage. My husband had the sleeve done July 10th and didn't have these issues... help please!!

It could be from gas pain. I had mine about same time as you but I kept continuously taking sips even though it hurt and it eased up as the day progressed and next day. Now it does hurt if I drink too quickly too.

The left side pain is very normal. The surgeon has to dilate muscles to pull out the piece of stomach they removed and sometimes they put a very deep stitched into those muscles to pull them back together. I am 1 week out and the pain is getting better. Days 3-5 were my worst . Feels like a runner's cramp. I found that muscle relaxers help because of the muscle that's irritated. You may want to ask your surgeon if you can take that. Make sure you're taking your pain medicine as often as you can and use this time to rest. No two people heal the same so your situation will not be exactly like your husband. I was a little surprised at the pain myself as I used to have a lap band and did not experience this but found it was from the muscle manipulation. Focus on staying hydrated and sip fluids all day long. Even if its tiny drinks. You may be in the regret stage which we all go through. I promise you this will pass. You will feel like a completely different person in the week. Congrats on your new life!

Ive gone to wearing a binder. The stiches inside pull when I lay one side or the other or even standing. The binder helped ALOT. I feel pretty good after 10 days except for the occasional twing of pain.

I'm October 8th and still have pain in the middle of my chest. It's like major heartburn I guess?? I've never had heartburn before. I was able to eat my first sugar free pudding a little bit ago and now have the runs. I know tmi. I'm ok with the incision points but this heartburn is the worst. Trying to keep hydrated. Have only been able to drink about 2 bottles of Water (if that) everyday. After 4 hours of taking percoset, I get the chills and the pain comes back. I have learned that after 20 minutes of taking the pain meds, I can get most sips of Water in as well as my Vitamins. And then of course I'm not freezing anymore.

How are you feeling?

Mine was the 7th also. Pain meds and gas x. My muscle issue is on the right and it's getting better. Believe it or not, moving around is good. I am sure you are burping alot. Keep it up. It does help and you will find yourself burping less and less. Walk as much as possible to. That helps alot.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
