December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone!

I really need some HELP!!!

I was sleeved 12/17/13. I've been doing great and couldn't be happier about my decision to get WSG. I had no complications and was following Dr's plan religiously. I went back to work, no pain, no nausea.

Few day ago I developed pretty intensed right side mid abdominal pain with nausea. First, it localized higher up, so I thought it was my gallbladder. I had US that showed I don't have any stones or inflammation. Pain moved a little lower to the mid and on the right side. I went back to Clear Liquids that help a lot with pain, but it's still there. I don't have fever or chills and my belly is soft. My surgeons wants to do CT and sent for insurance approval. I'm so nervous!!! I can't sleep, can't think about anything else. Did anyone else had similar experience? Please share any info that can be helpfull.

Are you exercising? Have you pulled any muscles? I had the same smooth surgery experience as you (sleeved on Dec 16th). Pretty late in the game I felt some abdominal discomfort (no nausea though) and my doctor said it could be a pulled muscle or nerve because of the many ports used during surgery. It went away and I don't feel anything now. Make sure to stay in touch with your doctor, but remember to breathe and stay calm. I personally can make myself physically sick out of worrying. Best of luck,

My dear friends, this morning I kept my legs crossed for the longest time while sitting at work...JUST BECAUSE I CAN. Hahaha. (grin). Where else could I say this but this great forum? I know you all get it. ((hugs))

Seems like I wake up most nights around 2am and am hungry. Is this happening to other folks? What are you doing about it? It makes sense that I would be physically hungry, if I'm having 2 oz of soft food around 6pm, but I don't really want to "wake up" and have more food. But then I think, well, I *am* awake! Part of its typical "woke up in the middle of the night and can't get back to sleep," but it seems even harder with these hunger pangs.

Not a huge problem... Just every thing seems more ponderable when it's 2am and you can't sleep! :)

It has happened to me from time to time...I just eat a tablespoon of all natural, sugar free Peanut Butter or a piece of fat free cheese, and I can go right back to sleep.

Hope everyone is doing well! Just checking in.. been super busy with work, family and other things.

Managed to Celebrate my birthday this past weekend without indulging in all the party food that was around me. My ex-hubby had a huge superbowl party and I was surrounded by wings, pizza, chips, pretzels, subs, cake, Cookies, chili, mac and cheese, beer, wine and mixed drinks... O.M.G.!

But I was good...actually took some Wendy's Chili, turkey pepperoni and string cheese with me...and happily ate only that... Amazing how much I've changed..I used to dive head first into all the goodies...

What a difference a year makes.

On average how many carbs are yall taking in?

I average about 40 per day but that's just because all I ever eat is Protein. My nut said not to worry about it too much because I need the energy for my work outs. She told me not to let the carbs get above the protein so I wouldn't eat more than 80 since that's how much protein I eat daily.

On average how many carbs are yall taking in?

About 20-35 g carbs a day. I'm on soft foods now. When I was at the end of the liquid phase, I snapped and had potato Soup. THAT was high carb! I did have some Fritos and queso for the Super Bowl, but even that was under 50 carbs.

I've had similar symptoms for about 1 month. Pain in lower and mid abdominal area, predominantly on my right side but a little on the left side too. Went to my Dr's office and he suspected Constipation was behind my pain but wanted to do a CT. The CT didn't reveal anything new -- only pointed out the large kidney stone I've had for 5 years. My surgeon suspects the kidney stone is part of my problem, but I'm convinced it's my ongoing constipation. It's so bad I'm eating less now than I was a month ago, and mostly because I don't want to eat with that bloated feeling. Living on Milk of Mag. but that can't be good to take for an extended period ...

I'm losing weight very quickly now, given that I feel so crappy and never want to eat anything. Everyone keeps asking if I feel great after losing all of this weight, and I wish I could say I did. Actually I felt great about one month ago ...

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
