December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

Recommended Posts

Had surgery yesterday. I'm in a lot of pain. On morphine and delotin. And it still isn't taking the pain from my Inscitions away. My stomach muscles keep cramping up together whenever I try to move, sit up, sit down, lye down, you name it. I have to pass has and get my pain in control before they'll let me leave. I'm hoping for this afternoon.

Hi All: I like MnWin am having a terrible time getting the liquids in. After following the plan for liquids for only one hour I feel like my stomach will burst from pressure. Been trying gas x strips. Due to the nausea I had day 2 and 3 I won't take any pain meds stronger than liquid tylenol. Is there anyone else out there that encountered this at the first and saw it get better? I very discouraged and teary because I feel so much pressure in my stomach. At this point if I could undo this surgery I would in a second.

My prayers to you cabs! Hope you can get this under control soon did you call your dr?

Hi Tam j:

I called my Dr. yesterday, talked with the PA, she just said to keep trying (I think she thinks i am just being a baby). I took more GasX strips, and added a new scopolamine patch for nausea which has helped some. The analogy to a #2 pencil feels about right. Today I have concentrated on getting in 2oz. of Protein Shake almost every hour. Just a few mins ago I drank my Protein and 15 mins. later Water, which made my stomach feel that intense pressure again. I will just have to go with less liquids for now. Feeling very tired. I am so disappointed in my recovery so far, I just hope it gets better. I'm usually not impacted by pain, this has really hit me hard.

Thanks to all the well wishes, I really appreciate having this group to talk to. My prayers are with all the other sleevers for a fast recovery!

My understanding according to my NUT is that Protein Shakes are considered a meal and we should wait 30 minutes after drinking any of it before drinking water -- maybe that will help with reduction in cramping.... I haven't had any cramping or pressure and I'm 9 days out but I do get rumbling and gurgling

shakes taste the same way they did prior to my VSG (not great and not horrible)I just can't sip too fast which of course is not recommended for any WLS patient

I would say .... Change how you are thinking about what you have done (surgery). Try to think positive thoughts ...Calm yourself down and go slow..My Dr. prescribed me Omerprazole 20mg for that gurgling feeling. Call your Dr. I hope you feel better soon...Just keep thinking about how good you will feel a month from now... Good luck to you! :)

I have a question. Anyone regretting their decision? No one has said anything so I was just wondering. I'm having a problem with drinking. Doesn't matter how small the sip or how slow I can feel it go through my sleeve and it gurgels (sp?) At me every time.

I was sleeved on Dec. 9th and I spent days this week bawling over my decision to do this to myself. I can drink Water ok but definitely not as much as I need. Protein Shakes (no matter which ones as I've tried 5) throw me into a hypoglycemic attack and I even passed out a couple times this week. Dr said it's likely alimentary hypoglycemia as I get terribly sick with vomiting and diarrhea after the pass out stage. I can drink a few sips without getting sick but any more than that no matter how long it takes to drink them make me sick. So, I am basically getting close to 0 Protein and maybe 100 calories a day in jello/pudding or a few bites of Soup. Not good... I'm just praying that moving on to more solids next week will help.

So sorry to hear this. Try adding Liquid Protein shots to your water, with a little bit of crtyal light.

I was sleeved on Dec 11th? Is anyone dealing hunger pains? If yes, how are you handling? I'm managing to get my Protein in, but off on getting in the 64oz of Water. Help!

Hi Kamina....I am a fellow 11th sleever. I think I get a few hunger pains...but if I do, I usually have a SF Popsicle or Jello, or a glass of V-8 which I am allowed on the liquid diet. I am 4 days away from the puréed stage (you wanna know how many minutes that is...lol) and I think life will become much more manageable. I am struggling to get in the protein because normally I am just too full to get in more than 3 shakes a day, but am getting around 50 oz of liquids and about 50 grams of protein...close, but just can barely stomach (no pun intended) the shakes at this point.

Btw, just wanted to share two awesome recipes I've tried lately: Great for pureed and soft stages... YUMMY Both!

Tomato Soup: Protein: 12 grams per 6-oz serving

Ingredients:

Directions:

1. Microwave skim milk on high for 80 seconds.
2. Whisk in remaining ingredients until blended.
3. Microwave again for 10-20 seconds on high. Whisk until smooth

and..

Mashed Potatoes: Protein: 2 grams per 1 oz-serving

Ingredients:

  • 1 Tbsp + 1 tsp potato flakes
  • 2 Tbsp skim milk
  • 1 tsp unflavored protein powder
  • 1 pat butter or 1 tsp sour cream

Directions:

1. In a 1-cup size microwave-safe cup, microwave milk for 25 seconds on high.
2. Stir in remaining ingredients.
3. Whisk rapidly until smooth.

I have no hunger pains but mentally I want to eat. However my incision is letting me know that I better just stick to the liquids and be done with it... I read all of the stories that people were told to go on a pre-liquid diet before their surgery date. I went on a one day liquid diet and my surgeon stated I did great. She said my liver was perfect, she asked me if I drank alcohol. I am not a drinker or a smoker I live a clean life. (I don't judge those that do. I'm just letting you know what works for my life)

Thanks all! My doctor required two weeks liquid diet pre-op, but the past two days I've had this hunger headache and a hunger pain in the "pit" of my stomach. Urrrggghhh. And this two shall past...I'm on full liquids until Jan 2nd, can't wait. Maybe mentally I'm obsessing over the food I can't eat! Trying to stay focused ;(

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
