Fellow cooks! How do you do it?

Recommended Posts

I love to cook and I do not use recipes. My family laughs because nothing I make ever tastes exactly the same twice. I cook, I taste a bit, I season, I taste, I stir and adjust, I taste...

By the time it's all ready, my nose is running indicating that I'm full! Oh the irony! I get all the under salted, too little garlic, not enough heat tastes and only one or three bitesof the good stuff for all my efforts. WHAT TO DO!?!?!

I do use a teeny tiny baby spoon and I barely take a lick. I can only hold a few tablespoons right now and I do log all nibbles, licks and chews.

AHAHAHAHAA!! How to cook without tasting?? That is the question.

Rule #5!!! Let the family eat under seasoned food, because tasting while cooking means no dinner for my tiny tummy!

I cook like that as well. My wife will say, "I like this better than last time", but I don't remember what I did. I do basic seasoning (herbs and spices) without tasting, and RARELY add any salt. I warn folks that they may need to salt their portion at the table. So I rarely need to taste.

You could taste and spit it out.

I make so much food from memory that I don't ever test...If I use a new recipe I follow directions and again don't test....Seems to have worked for me for years.....

Maybe it's because I'm older then you guys.....lol

Lipstick lady I noticed from your doctor's name that you're from my area. I hope to have surgery with Dr. Carmody soon. Still waiting for insurance approval. Congrats on your surgery. Sorry this is off topic. I can't answer it since I'm still pre op but got excited when I saw your doctor's name. Those lips always get attention :)

I do the same thing! My daughter rolled her eyes at me last night because as soon as I sat down at the table I said "I'm full". I end up just sitting and watching everyone else eat now.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
