Band life... Serious questions...

Recommended Posts

I was banded on 2/14/13. I have worked out constantly since I got the band and tracked on my fitness pal every single day since! But I have only lost 40 lbs! I was getting pretty discouraged as I have never felt any issues! Getting stuck etc!!!

I have a 14 cc band and get fills monthly. This past month I am finally starting to feel it!!! A little but and I am at 11.5 I think. Maybe just 11.

I still don't feel much of a difference I do feel it most in the AM after sleeping and not eating or drinking all night...

Is this common? Has it taken anyone this long to lose weight and get to the green zone? I sometimes feel like I am the only person this won't work on. ;(

Who has a 14 cc band and how much Fluid do you have?

I totally appreciate and love feedback! I need encouragement. Thanks!

It kinda pisses me off when surgeons are so LAXED with fills. I totally understand taking it slowwwwwly to reach the green zone in a controlled and safe manner, but I feel there's little merit in having to wait TEN months for proper restriction. I hope you can soon find that sweet spot... And remember, 40 lbs lost are FORTY LBS LOST!!! It's better than gaining them. I'm rooting for you.

40lbs is fantastic. Congratulations. I know sometimes it is frustrating but on the flip side dealing with being too tight just isn't worth it and could lead to another whole world of issues. I only have an 11cc band and my Surgeon claims to be aggressive but still it took me 5 months.

11cc Realize Band:

1st fill 5/29/12 5cc

2nd fill 6/12/12 1cc

3rd fill 7/02/12 1cc

4th fill 8/14/12 1cc

5th fill 9/4/12 1cc

6th fill 1/29/13 .5

You need to look at this another way.

You've been banded for 32 weeks. The average weight loss with the band is 1-2 pounds per week. You've lost an average of 1.25 pounds per week. That means you're exactly where you should be.

Remember, the weight didn't come on overnight and it won't come off overnight, either. Be patient and keep doing what you're doing and the weight will continue to come off.

I was banded in January and have lost 45 pounds so far. I have a 14cc band with 10.5cc currently. Just remember that a slow loss is better than no loss. You're doing great! :)

Thank you that does make me feel better. How are you doing with 10.5?

I'm feeling good- no problems other than when I eat too fast or don't chew well enough.

I'm really glad that my first fill was sizable. I came out of surgery with about 3cc's, and was given another 3 with the first fill. After that, about 1cc, then .25cc. I'm good now. I hear of people waiting months to feel restriction, with these teeny tiny fills. If I had to wait that long to feel the presence of my band, I would have been totally depressed. I understand the slow theory, but I think some docs take it a bit too far.

5th fill 9/4/12 1cc

Jim, that's actually a really nice history you've got there. I'm complaining about those who do .5 at a time (or less).... That's got to be frustrating.

So far I've had:

1st 3cc

2nd 1cc

3rd 1.5cc (because I asked for the extra .5)

4th only .5cc because I lost 8lbs in 2.5 weeks.

My surgery was 7/20/13 and I've lost 37lbs

I was very discouraged I paid for my band and have been feeling like it was a huge waste of money! I could have lost by using my fitness pal and working out by myself! I am hoping this next fill will help more...I want to understand this green zone I hear so much about!!! ;)

Actually, speaking as someone else who has had small fills, I don't find it frustrating at all. In fact, I'm thrilled my surgeon was cautious and patient enough to gradually work me into the Green Zone rather than over-fill me into the Red Zone

I only have 5.3cc in my 10cc band. My last fill was only .1cc and my fill before that was .3cc.

It's not about the amount of Fluid in the band, it's about how you feel. The amount is irrelevant.

I am the exact same...I am at 10 1/2 cc in a 14...have had 11 fills but my surgery was 0ct 22, 2012 ...so almost a year...it has been a long wait for this band to start helping a bit...I am at about 48 lbs loss and it had been almost a year...very discouraging to say the least...especially when I see what Mis 73 (hehe) has been able to accomplish along with hundreds of others who have lost 30 to 40 lbs in their first month. I knew it would be a slow and difficult process but I didnt think it would be this slow. I will stay the course as it is better than where I was a year ago :)

By the way...am just starting to feel a bit from my last fill so maybe HOPE on the horizon....FINGERS CROSSED :)

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
