I Go In March 8Th For My Surgery

Recommended Posts

I just joined this forum, like I said I am very nervous n excited.

I have had a weight problem since I was in my 30s, have been on every diet you can think of, some successfully, some not. 8 years ago I lost all my weight was down to a size 12 , very happy with the new me, maintained for 2 years, then stress came into my life, big time, my mother was diagnosed with cancer 1 month later she passed, then my hubby was transferred, we moved took 4 years to meet friends, which was not good since I am a social person, so needless to say I turned to comfort food as a friend, hubby is out of town lots, which also does not help, when u have comfort food as a friend, lol.

I love to travel, camp, golf, the past year has been tough, all of a sudden that airplane seat is tight on the butt n hips, and the seat belt barely fits, (yikes)golf geesh when u are out of breath walking to the golf cart, (u think u have a prob), camping all I want to do is sleep.

So I have made the decision to get the sleeve, when I spoke to my hubby about this, he was behind me 100 percent, he is coming with me, I have such a low tolerance to pain, by what I have read most of you have done great, so just hope I do as well, too.

Would love to hear and compare notes, with ya all, looking forward to the new me, also looking forward to reading all your success stories, also.

I agree the pre-op is no fun I am hungry all the time, I have no energy, and I am pretty sure my blood sugar levels are going crazy cause I am having some major mood swings.......but I am looking at the big picture and pluse I only have 5 days left. That is if my pass port gets here on time lol.

I am sitting in hospital chair...just has surgery yesterday morning at 7:30...was in recovery by 9:15-9:30am! Was quick, I didn't have any preop diet. I just couldn't eat anything after midnight day before surgery. So nothing all day yesterday and just got 3oz of Water for today. I am still a little sore, but things are going well, just waiting for the drain to be removed and a shower, may be let out tonight! I have a little cold, but aside from that, it was everything I expected. I had a little nausea, but they game me what they could. I am walking, just a little tired because was up the night bwfore with nerves, up last night because of all the room interruptions--check vital signs, etc and now during the day, everyone in and out. I have the option to stay and leave tomorrow morning or tonight, but need to be able to drink on my own, pee and pass gas and then they will let me go...2 out of 3 done! There was a test to see if stomach leaked and got to see the X-rays of new stomach, was cool! Doctor even recorded surgery for me. Sounds nuts, but I want to see what he sees!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
