I am type 2 diabetic and just visited the diabetes nurse educator and she said I can have 3 servings a day. Of course, I am pre op. Was just wondering because I don't know yet if my surgeon will say Water or milk or either. Does your surgeon say water or milk or either?

So I am feeling a little depressed now. I undertook this procedure because I have pretty bad type 2 diabetes and I had heard that for many people the surgery basically instantly fixes their diabetes. My results have not been that good, and while i am currently (5 days post) taking much less medicine, my numbers are still a little high (130-140) on average. I had been telling myself that it must just take a week or so, but I just had a long conversation with another poster on this board who was on the exact same medication as me and who was "cured" immediately after surgery, no meds and numbers in the 90s.

I know I am just being reactionary and it could still work, and that long term weight loss will also help, but I gotta admit I am pretty f'ing down right this second. While I know that it's not, right now my gut (ha ha) reaction is that this was a waste.

Went back, read this, and realized I was being a whiny baby earlier today. Does it suck that i didn't get exactly what I wanted? Yes. Does it mean this was a waste? Not at all.

My diabetes may still go away on its own as all of the new connections are still healing together. But, even if it doesn't, I can beat the diabetes by taking off the weight and by continuing to eat healthy.

By the way, I love this website and this community.

Don't sweat the emotional roller coaster.

You are not alone.

When those fat cells are forced to give up their Water a lot of hormones are released as well. Sometimes you can't even stand yourself it gets so bad.

Just acknowledge it and apologize to the people you live with for being a bear. It's totally normal.

It may just take some time for your body to adjust after surgery! I did not have diabetes my blood sugar was normal before surgery.. After surgery starting the night my RNY was done my blood sugar kept dropping to around 35-45 which from what I overheard the nurses saying is very dangerous ! So for about a month or more post op I had to check my blood every 2-3 hours to make sure it didn't drop below 60! Point is maybe your body just needs some time to readjust to the changes! But I do know the more you loose and not eating carbs and sugar will definitely help! Good luck, and its ok to have an emotional letdown... I do all the time ; )

Pretty good day today. Only slept almost 6 straight hours today. Got in another day of good walking, and it feels (knock on wood) like my soreness is almost completely gone.

The one negative is that I really didn't eat enough today. 2 ice pops, 1 sugar free Jello, and a bunch of crystal light, but no Protein. I just totally spaced and really didn't think about eating all day long (I was catching up on some work from home). I have to be more careful about that.

Wednesday is my first followup with the doc. I will get my staples out (I have 24 total), so that should be an exciting day.

I have found the clinic to be very professional and I have been completely satisfied with them so far. Good luck!

Pretty good day today. Went to work, even though I am not due back for two weeks, cause I feel pretty good. My fellow employees are all great people and super supportive, so it was a warm and fuzzy kind of day.

still having trouble eating and drinking enough. My wife has to keep reminding me to drink stuff because I just keep forgetting.

overall, day 7 went well. Day 8 is a visit to the doc. Woo hoo!!

1 week check in was today. Dr. says everything looks great. I am down 18 lbs since surgery last week, 25 since I started the cabbage Soup diet the week before surgery. Got my staples taken out and the nurse says my cuts look well enough that I should end up with tiny scars. Next appointment is in 3 weeks, and everything is moving along fine.

And.....drum roll.........I am getting ready to have some mashed potatoes (sans butter). Exciting!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
