OMG October 2013 Post-ops

Recommended Posts

I am 3 months out from surgery, 10/15/13, and it seems like this week my cravings have begun full force. I gave into them yesterday and today. Of course I can't eat the amount I once did, but I have no business having a cookie or french fries. I haven't had one issue staying within the food rules and calorie restrictions until this week. Does that mean my honeymoon period is over?

The only thing different I started lately is that I added cottage cheese and pineapple as a between meal snack. Do you think if I dropped the pineapple, the craving for sweets would diminish? Although pineapple is low in calories, it has carbs and sugar.

What are some other Snacks that would be good for between meals?

Are any of you having cravings issues that had your surgery in October 2013?

@thinndskies I have noticed my cravings or wants have escalated as well this past week. I have given in to some, but in moderation. I found it weird as well that a week ago having something sweet didn't cross my mind; yet it's been on my brain A LOT this week. Crazy. i have noticed that I'm getting bored with my menu. So.....I'm thinking maybe I should add some new choices or try some new things and that could possibly take away my need to go back to bad habits.

I'm super-carb sensitive. If I have simple carbs, even a little bit, it triggers cravings for more. It doesn't matter if it's low calorie or sugar free - if it's sweet tasting or any type of bread/cracker I get uncontrollable cravings. I do best if I avoid them completely. If I stay away from them I do fine and don't miss them. Maybe you are the same?

My surgery was May 2013. For Snacks I like Cracker Barrel cheese, CrunchO's Protein snacks in BBQ and SC&O flavors (12gr protein), Think Thin Bites (small Protein bars), Greek yogurt, and hummus. I eat the hummus w/a spoon. :-)

I hear ya, Angie! It felt like a switch was turned on at 3 months-cravings and hunger (both real and head).

I'm still eating 600-800 calories per day. Three 2 ounce meals. Although I do occasionally snack on something healthy. But just a couple bites. If my stomach is growling!! Exercising a TON!! Joined a new gym. Go at least 5 times per week.

I'm eating between 600 & 900 calories a day. I have focused most on making sure I'm getting enough Protein and I am working out. Mostly just walking at this point.

Im eating 950 cals per day and walk for an hour about 3x a week on average.

I honestly couldn't survive on 600 cals a day. It takes all my determination to stop at 950 cals. Im really beginning to question my restriction. I can eat alot more than we're supposed to at 3 months out and im hungry to boot. I always do Protein first and choose good sources. But after 15 mins im hungry again. Im focusing hard on having 3 meals a day because I could easily eat every hour otherwise. Water habit is good now. 64 oz daily.

Terry, so you never eat carbs? Wonder if that is healthy in the long run? I think I am carb sensitive. The only thing that doesn't seem to trigger cravings is sugar free popscicles. I'll try backing off on carbs.

Are you still doing Protein Shakes too? I notice I have more cravings when I don't do my shakes. I usually hide my protein in a cup of Decaf coffee. But 950 isn't bad. I'd talk to your dr. If you have questions about how much you can eat. He will have better advice than any of us here, it is his job anyway, lol.

I had my 3 month follow up today. Down total of 60 so far. All the labs are great except my A1C which was 10.8...damn diabetes!! Doc says he wants me to go back on meds and to not be discouraged but it is hard not to be cause the diabetes was the reason I decided to have the surgery.

No other option but to chive on and see what happens in the next few months.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
