So this is Month #3 in my supervised diet. After this I file for insurance. The first month I lost 5 lbs. The second month I gained 4. This month I gained 2. My appointment is this morning. I have taken a laxative out of desperation and plan on wearing a tee shirt and gym shorts. :( I feel like a failure. Will insurance deny me?

Insurance could and could not deny you. It's all up to the surgeon to fight for you & let them know you are putting your part. I was on a 30 day diet with no number to lose but in those 30 days I lost 15lbs and was proud of my self. I was on two shakes 1 meal 1 snack for 28 days then 2 days liquid diet. Started at 211 lbs and on surgery day weight 197 lbs :)

There is no certain amount of weight that I have to lose. I was doing the 3 month diet based on Cigna requirements.

I think they want you to lose 5-10% of your body wt...to see if you can adhere to the diet after surgery....

Cigna has the requirement of either 3 months supervised weightloss or 10% total body weight loss. I was warned by my surgeon's office very strictly that I could not gain weight during this time. Stay the same or lose. I'm sorry to say you may have a hard time with insurance. It might be worth trying this again for 3 months to start that part over.

It also depends in which Cigna plan....requirements vary significantly from plan to plan....don't freak yet! Good luck!!!

With my plan it states that I have to have a supervised 3 month diet. That is all the info that was given to me. No one ever said I should lose a certain amount. Has anyone ever been turned down for nit losing during the 3 month diet

My understanding is you can't weigh more than your starting weight. So it looks like your only a pound over. I wouldn't sweat it. Good luck!

I have Cigna, I was told at my first appointment after the seminar that I had to lose between 8-13 pounds in my 3 month diet in order to get approval from Cigna. I lost 17 pounds and now waiting for approval. Good luck to you

I have Cigna and gained as well. My surgeon's office said that some insurances will deny you if you gain but that Cigna is not known to deny for weight gain.

Vicki the Cigna policy I have doesn't require that you lose 5%. I have an employee who has the same insurance and did not lose and was approved. It depends on the policy. Since the OP said they weren't required to lose then they don't have to lose 5%.

I too was told by my surgeon's office not to gain, to stay the same or lose. I specifically asked if this is for insurance and they said NO, they said your surgery outcome is better if you don't gain. As I mentioned before MY CIGNA INSURANCE doesn't require that you lose and doesn't give you a choice between 3 months supervised weight AND exercise or 10% weight loss. They require the 3 months period. I would suggest talking directly to Cigna insurance because you'll get all kinds of answers on these forums that are inaccurate and drive yourself crazy.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
