December Surgeries!?!?!?

Recommended Posts

Surgery went really well yesterday.;) Dr. found a hiatal hernia which he repaired. Chest is a little tight. I was able to sit up in a chair late last evening for 45 minutes. Step one diet today and walking, walking, walking.

so day five for me and you huh. How are u doing? If u have a my fitness pal account u are welcome to friend me if u like. Seeing as how we both had surgery on the same day :) my user name on there is xrayshel it's a great way to track everything I eat and I'm able to see all my friends food diaries too so that's helpful! And motivational as well.
Hi xrayshel, I just sent you a message through MyFitnessPal. Anyone else wanting to connect my user name on MyFitnessPal is Repurposed2013

Hi there, got your friend connect on MyFitnessPal & I'm looking forward to the fitness encouragement we'll share. my RNY was 12/11. I'm doing well but still learning and adjusting. This week I battled with Constipation and so I introduced a mild laxative and added sugar free Fiber gummies. I'm losing very slowly but as long as the scale nudges downward, I'm good with it. I'm 3 weeks post op and have only lost 8 lbs since surgery. How's your experience going other than being bored at home?

I am having problems with Constipation as well and I am not feeling my best! I am glad you posted about the fiber gummies I will have to get some of those and take with my miralsx.

Be careful with the gummies; I know I'm not allowed them. Apparently, milk of magnesia provides the magnesium you need to go, but the stuff is like licking a gym sock - so nasty (but the one time i tried it, it worked like a charm). My doc reminded me that because I'm eating so little, that theres a difference between feeling constipated (bloating, gas, pain) and "little input, little output". In any case, he said that if Constipation is an issue, try Senekot laxative, which are small and vegetable-based tablets. Hope that helps.

Thank you I'm facing the same issue with Constipation which I'm hoping is due to the fact Im still taking hydrocodone around the clock . I'm a little concerned about needing it so frequently a week later but when I don't take it the pain on my left side prevents me from moving. My dr appts tomorrow am though. Otherwise doing fine going from periods of elation to sadness-darn hormones and losing slowly too. I'm going to try not to care until all the pain is gone and I am clear to exercise.

Thanks if that happens to me I'll use Senekot.

I am a pooping machine... Ugh.! Trying to figure out this last week which med, food, what exactly is making me shoot out whatever I put in. Because frankly, it's starting to make me feel not so nice.;( I think it may be sugar alcohols in the Popsicles but not sure yet. That'd be great to be sensitive to sugar substitutes wouldn't it?! Grr. I'm done b*#%^ in, down ten pounds so that's a good thing but I sure don't want to cramp/poop out the other 70 for cripes sake. ;) hanging in there. How's everybody?

I use Miralax on a daily basis. It is gentle on the tummy and uses the Water already in ur system and pulls it into the bowels to help move em. It's great stuff and u can mix it with water and it's tasteless. Or put it in ur Protein Shake and u really can't tell it's even in there! This is gentle enough my surgeon already said I can still use it after my bypass. Hope this helps!

Wow..I am 12 days out and I am allowed to start eating normal foods. My biggest issue will be the volume and eating slowly. I will need to start weighing and measuring to make sure I don't over do it too.

When I first started taking it, I wanna say it took a couple of doses before it really started working.... But I had a real bad problem with it too... Just be patient and keep taking it even if u don't see immediate results, cause u WILL! :) and if u stay on it daily, u will see a major difference! It's good stuff.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
