Recommended Posts

My Dr. Put me on Carnation Breakfast Essentials (sugar free) for my two week pre-op diet. 5 a day mixed with Water except the one befor bed is with skim milk. They are not very tasty at all but I am now on day 6 and I seem to be doing ok.

I totally agree with you. My surgery is less than 24 hours away. And allowing myself to be totally under anesthetic . . . I've never liked that lack of control, or the loss of memory of that time. I know the anesthetic is for the best. I know this surgery is for the best. I need it to help reduce my need for medications. But before that, I need it so I won't have the problems that require those medications. So, for now I'm just focusing on the plan: Clear Liquids only today, staying busy, completing the daily projects I have to do today, etc. I'm trying to let tomorrow happen as it should. I don't know if that helps you or not. I hope it does. But it's all I can do.

Hope all went well today!!

I'm new here and have been going through this process since February of this year. After years of battling numerous health issue, including Diabetes, Hypertension, Severe Asthma among others...my primary Dr had begun talking to me about surgical options. After a lot of thought and consideration I made the decision in May to proceed with a Roux en Y procedure. The insurance company had extensive requirements and after 6 months of their programs, I received my approval 2 weeks ago!!!! My surgery is setup for December 26th (Merry Christmas) and the surgeon is requiring a 3 week liquid diet. I am 1 week into the liquid diet and I feel HORRIBLE! My daily intake consists of a Protein Shake for breakfast, a sugar free greek yogurt for snack, a cup of Soup for lunch, a sugar free pudding for afternoon snack and a bowl of cream of wheat for dinner==800 calories/day. I have 2 weeks of this to go yet...does it get easier? Does the body adjust? I have lost 11 pounds in the last 6 days which is exciting...but hard earned. I know I can do this...but does it get easier?

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
