December Surgeries!?!?!?

Recommended Posts

I'm still not sure if ill be in November or December so I'm following this thread as well as November surgeries. I'm 36 years old, have weighed over 200 pounds since I was 16.....CW 232 HW 252....... I have lost 20 pounds over the last year.....was supposed to see my PCP today but ended up with the Physicians Assistant who said I don't need weight loss surgery because I've lost 20 pounds in the last year.....oh then she said the results of my knee X-rays did not show any arthritis (in pain everyday for years now), she said they concluded my knee pain was from my weight and "good job keep doing what your doing"........ I was frustrated but I'm just going back to see my PCP ASAP, I know he will clear me for surgery because him and I have been talking weight loss for the passed year. I have 4 kids and a long term boyfriend who is hesitant but supportive so far. I've got everything done except two more appointments with surgeon (oct 28 and Nov 11) then pre-op consult and lab work .....waiting for a cancellation to go back and see my PCP....possible surgery dates are Nov 20th, 27th, or December 18th or 30th. We should get bonus points for doing this around the holidays ;)

Welcome to the group! And I completely agree. The two dates I have been given are dec 10th and dec 18th. Both are way to close to christmas and the 10th date would mean id be havibg a protien shake for thanksgiving bc of the pre op diet! However I have a 1 year old (almost 2!) And I seriously doubt she will remember me not being 100% on chrisrmas. And honestly thats my main concern. Of course who wouldnt be bummed over missing two holiday dinners and peooke have actuallybasked me why dont I reschedule for passed the holidays to enjoy the meals. Well if you dont have surgery nesr the holidays solely so you can eat. Id uave to say your probably not ready for surgery. Now...I dont mean rescheduling for o yr her holiday reasons..like going out of town or having children and not having a support person. .that would be rough! A little about me..im 27..HW 305. CW 297. I have an amazing husband surrporting me and like I mentioned we have a one year old daughter. Plan to have another post op when im able to. I have always been overweight. I believe I hit 200lbs in 8th or 9th grade. I stayed between 260-280 for years but after my daughter is when I reached my highest and decided I was done!

I just started this group and the process of the journey to healthiness. It has been a battle and I must say that I am looking forward to this. I have waited forever so it seems. I am looking towards January. NOW there is a test! Holidays and to keep maintaining the 5% weight loss that my insurance says I have to in order to stay qualified....

Well, I just got to the beginning. I have just met with the surgeon and now all the labs and such to go. Plus the psychological. What if they find out I am nuts!!! LOL. Oh well. Seems like this journey was a long winding one and now maybe there is the rainbow... I like the new years resolution, although I gave up on the weight thing a long time ago. I am down 3% of the total weight that I have to do. I have only 4 pounds left and have to sustain that until surgery (at least). Funny how you have to lose weight and then be lower when time for surgery...oh well.

I have 3yr & 4yr adopted children. Im afraid of it being in December in case god forbid there is a complication. I need to be home with my family, not in a hospital. SW 238 CW 234 (10 more to go and I will be scheduled).

It does.make it hard for one to be having a good Christmas. Still have to watch the food. But you are right that you don't have to be out if it or sick...

My thoughts exactly. The mind of parents! Do you have someone with you at home to help ? My husband works nights so at least the first few days our daughter will stay with my mother and then when she does come home my husband will have to do bath and stuff before he leaves and she sleeps well so we shoukd be ok but I will play it by ear. During the day I will likely keep her in chikd care ( which is my mom) I dont enjoy being away fron her. Exoecially when im at home but I want to rest and concentrate on myself and heal properly. I dont want to over do it and then suffer!

I am doing ok. I have started drinking tea instead of my diet dr. peppers so that is one thing I am doing to prepare. Other than that and trying to get in some exercise, I guess nothing yet. I will definitely put up my Christmas tree and all of my decorations after Thanksgiving as well as getting as much shopping done as possible. How about yourself?

I think that's very smart to start making adjustments to your diet now. I've gone as far as replacing two of my meals with Protein shakes. I'm hoping it will help with the switch to full liquids post op. I have completed all tasks required (meetings, nut apt, exercise apt, therapist etc) all that is left is the seemingly impossible pre op weight loss. Even with the shakes its just not coming off. Its pathetic, I'm only required to lose 14lbs and I've only lost 2lbs in 3 months. Story of my life!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
