I know the feeling this is day 5 for me. I am glad that I do get to have a meal of 4 oz of meat (broiled, grilled, bake or canned and drained) plus no more than a cup of veggies (there are a list of them that I have to avoid) so I've been going for salads or collard greens. I can have 2 to 3 shakes a day, a small piece of fruit, cheese stick/dairy, and SF jello/popsicle so I guess I should be thankful. :) It's still a little hard because I'm use to having whatever I want when I want it. I was starving at lunch today but went home and fixed my shake so it took away the rumble in my stomach. I can't wait for dinner though. Hang in there you'll get through it. We have to keep our eyes on the prize(Surgery in 10 days) Yay us!!! :D We can do this!!!!

Okay, my Mom is celebrating her birthday this weekend and I'm expected to attend. Of course there will be food which I can't have and wine which I can't sip. I've decided to take a bottle with some Crystal Light in it or two to sip on so nobody recognizes that I'm not having a cocktail. After all my Mom is the only one I've told. She asked me could I at least have one drink I said no I'm to scared it will mess with my liver and I do not want to have to reschedule my surgery just for one day of fun. I'll get through this I'm just going to keep my eyes on the prize!

Good job! Just stick through it! It will be worth it! We are struggling together lol! I had my last pre op appointment today, and am starting to get nervous, though!

I'm struggling choking these shakes down guys. I even threw up this morning. I don't know if its the milk, or I'm just tired of them or what. I had a disgusting taste in mouth and I'm just nauseous. UGH! What kind of shakes are/did you guys use?

Try to find the non milk based, Isopure ready to drink, drinks. They help a lot! Best of luck for your journey ahead.

I went to my bariatric pantry dot com and got sample pack of their "ohYeah" shakes. They have lots of Protein, 3g of sugar and taste pretty good! I also got whey Protein powder at target, it was decent mixed with 1% milk...

My surgeon has us drinking Carnation Instant Breakfast No Sugar Added (blue box). I actually don't get to have the Protein Drinks. I do, however, have some of the "clear" Isopure drinks that I drink half a bottle a day or so. Just to keep my Protein up. I will have the Protein Shakes after surgery, but not before. The Carnation provides the Vitamins and minerals needed. I can have 1 cup of skim milk per day. Either with 1 shake or spread out through all of my shakes. Others must be mixed with Water. But trust me, don't mix 1 package with just water unless you make it in a shot glass! NASTY. I mix 4 oz of milk with 4 oz of water and then add some Decaf instant coffee crystals. Sometimes I heat it up for a hot drink and sometimes I have it on ice for a cold mocha drink.

yeah. I like the taste better than most Protein Shakes. I do like to put the coffee crystals in mine but they have to be Decaf. I also add a packet of sweet n low.

vanilla and a variety pack with strawberry in it. Those ones are a little hard to find. Sam's or a costco might have them. chocolate can be found at just about any grocery store but get the blue box. It's by the Cereal and oatmeal.< /p>

I drink Premier shakes in vanilla or my Herbalife in Cafe Latte or Orange Cream. I too am getting excited! After learning that I will only be in the hospital for 48 hours or less I've decided to unpack some of my gowns in my bag. I'm still trying to decide what to wear to the hospital because it'll also be what I wear home. I did get my letter from the insurance company and put it in my bag since it waves my $300 copay????????! I'm excited about that!

I need to go online tonight and order my chicken Soup from powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury for the liquid phase of my post-op. I've already purchased my first month of pills too.

We can do this!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
