Pre-op liquid diet

Day 3 and struggling! This is so hard! I'm only allowed to have 4 8oz shakes a day and sugar free jello, sugar free Popsicles, and water. 800 calories. I'm really tired, I'm cranky and I'm hungry! Please tell me it gets easier! Also, I'm having a bit of a "liquid in, liquid out" issue. Is this normal?

Very normal!!!! I promise it will get easier!!!!!

I started my pre-op diet today also and it is the same as yours. I did get some sunflower seeds to help with the snacking craving. They are small and high in protein. This diet sucks.

I had the worst time too. I was on the same diet. I am on post op clear liquid and I don't even want to look or smell broth anymore.

I found after day three is was better so maybe tomorrow will be the day you feel better. Those sugarfree gums trident dessert were very helpful for me.

The gum is a great idea! Thank you!

I thought day three and day ten were the worst. The rest was pretty easy!! You got this!!

I'm on day 2 now. Oh the dirty things I'd do for a cheeseburger right now.

I know, girl. Chinese food won't get out of my head! I just keep telling myself another day I get through it is another day I don't have to do it! And you don't realize how many gosh darn food commercials they show! Ugh!

I'm starting to realize just how addicted to food I really am. I'm in my break room at work and they are serving chicken fried steak and mashed potatoes. I'm sitting here drinking decaf coffee. Guess I should just get out of here. Haha

Be careful with the gum. My surgeon told me no gum at all because you naturally produce saliva while chewing. Swallowing this spit can make it hard to get your liquids, plus if you accidentally swallow it you could end up back in the OR.

That's true. Thanks for the advice! I will ask at my pre op appointment.

It's hard. I'm counting down the days until after surgery and the soft foods and I can have a few bites of mashed potatoes and yogurt! YUM!

I know the feeling this is day 5 for me. I am glad that I do get to have a meal of 4 oz of meat (broiled, grilled, bake or canned and drained) plus no more than a cup of veggies (there are a list of them that I have to avoid) so I've been going for salads or collard greens. I can have 2 to 3 shakes a day, a small piece of fruit, cheese stick/dairy, and SF jello/popsicle so I guess I should be thankful. :) It's still a little hard because I'm use to having whatever I want when I want it. I was starving at lunch today but went home and fixed my shake so it took away the rumble in my stomach. I can't wait for dinner though. Hang in there you'll get through it. We have to keep our eyes on the prize(Surgery in 10 days) Yay us!!! :D We can do this!!!!
