Couldn't be sleeved so I'm having the bypass

I'm apologizing in the beginning if this typing appears small. I had issues like that on the Vertical Sleeve site when typing from my phone.

I just found out today that I have bad reflux so my surgeon won't do the gastric sleeve. I never had heartburn so I couldn't understand it. Anyway she said she'll have to do the RYN bypass instead so I joined this forum.

My thoughts are all over the place at this moment for I've been geared up for the sleeve all this year.

I'm coming here for support.

I went through the same thing. After all the testing my doctor said they he would suggest the RYN because of GERD. I was devastated and almost cancelled the whole thing. My doctor was very patient with me and explained and answered all my questions and made me comfortable moving forward. My surgery was July 9th and I'm very happy with the decision. Research and educate yourself - there are scary stories out there but for every bad one there are 20 good. It's a life changing decision and has to be right you.

Good luck!

I had the sleeve, and now I am having bypass for just that reason, I have reflux so bad..so, 1 wk from today is my surgery...dont want to go for multiple surgeries so take your doctors advice and go for the bypass....:)

I too was to have the sleeve, but due to reflux had RNY on Feb 28, 2013. Best decision ever. I have no reflux--my hiatal hernia was repaired, I have lost 75 lbs--went from 291 to 216 today. I feel great. Very little post surgical pain. My life is good and I am very glad I had the surgery.
